Freshly back from the West Country Empty
PostSubject: Freshly back from the West Country   Freshly back from the West Country EmptyMon May 23, 2011 5:16 pm

Eva is back from her west country tour and behaved superbly. Damage Barton didn't disappoint for the excellent coast path walks and the windy conditions - took four of us to get the tent awning down prior to our departure. The North Cornwall surf (Polzeath) was great, as was our coast path walk towards Rock and enjoyed my run to Pentire Head from Tristram camp site and back. At St. Austell it rained - nothing unusual there then but the sun did come out at times and our trip the the Eden Project was very enjoyable. I would recommend the River Valley campsite at London Apprentice, St. Austell to anyone who has family to consider, as the facilites are very good; indoor pool, games room, bike hire and a flat cycle/walking/running trail to Pentuwan village and Sands. The drive both down and back however was somewhat difficult, as we had strong head and side winds to deal with on both occasions.

All in all, an enjoyable trip.

Next time your down in the St.Austell area check out a small place called Charlestown. Its stunning and usually has 1 or 2 old tallships in the harbour (last time I was there they let you onboard for £2 and give you a tour which the kids loved!) . Good ice cream too Laughing

Charlestown is always a must visit for us, as is Mevagissey. Did Totnes on the way home, as reputed to be the home of ageing hippies and tantric women but did not find either on Sunday. Most of the Alt. cafes and bookshops were closed too.

You can always rely on the wind at Damage Barton, we've had some interesting nights in tents there before we got the van, now we just gently rock.

We're thinking of heading out that way at some point this year - any sites worthy of recommendation? Like nature & peace, quite like hokey french campsite entertainments, needs to not be baby unfriendly, just not keen on mass market caravan ghettoes.

Good luck with the tour btw, sounds ace
