PostSubject: Interesting things to do near Yate   Sat May 28, 2011 11:17 pm

For the time being at least, Tilly is still being serviced every 6 months at Danbury in order to maintain the 3 year warranty.

So far I've endured an interminably boring day in Yate itself, and another pretty awful day in Bristol City centre (I'm not really a city person).

Has anyone found anywhere interesting to visit starting from Yate, preferably by train or bus (yeah I know I could have a loan car, but I'd prefer not to).

Just discovered you can get to Western Super Mare by train in a hour or so, so a day at the seaside is one possibility for next time Cool

Weston Super Mare is a good day out . Visit the new pier and get the best fish and chips opposite to the main entrance (on the other side of the road) or visit Westonbirt arboretum (see their web site for info and concerts etc if you want to overnight) , Gloucester is really interesting too with lots of old buildings, pubs and water ways (cathedral is stunning!) or nip off to the cotswolds (beautiful area and enough to keep you busy for a week) . If you want to stay really close there is a sports centre / swimming pool and new library in Yate itself, Chipping Sodbury has a selection of small shops, pubs and the best Chinese Ive ever been too or 3 miles away lots of walks in open country side and through some fantastic old woodland etc...You can even go horse riding affraid or take your bike for some punishment. You are welcome to the free loan car and if you pre arrange can even keep it overnight if you wish to come back the next day. Hope this helps.

Thanks Jason. I live on the Herefordshire/Worcestershire border so I don't have too far to come, but just too far to go home again after dropping the van off! I know Gloucester and the Cotswolds pretty well and agree they would make a good day out for someone coming from further afield.

Spending a day in pubs eating and drinking it is then!

If it's a nice day and you fancy a little exercise then here is a link to the Frome Valley Walkway. You can join the pathway along the road between Danbury and Yate rail station - near the railway bridge.
It's only a stroll to Chipping Sodbury (maps 10 and 11) with several places there for lunch.
The path is signposted but it's a good idea to take the map pages with you.
Have not tried the route in the other direction (yet)
