PostSubject: Dean, Jo, Imogen   Tue Feb 09, 2010 1:08 pm

Hi
As you might guess from the imaginative choice of user name, my name is Dean and my wife is Jodie, and we will share this log in....
We have a brilliant little daughter Imogen and look forward to many camping trips and long advetures in a new bay.

However.... we dont have one yet !

First stop has been Danbury and VWDownunder, only on line, we havent been in person yet. Next up is the classified section in this forum and checking all the other places on the web. We will get there .... and then the fun can begin. flower

I have had various VW's; '70 beetle, '59 splitty camper, '78 bay double cab and recently a '70 bay camper. Now I'd a new bay, 2007 or newer and see what the world is like 'watercooled' !! cheers
I have also got a '70 beetle which I race in the VWDRC, have a look at my page for more info on that... www.beetleburner.weebly.com

So, hello, and watch this space for a new van afro

Welcome Dean / Jodie

You sound like we did a couple of years ago - to buy, not to buy, where to buy...etc...

Sounds like your doing your research though.

What I would say though is that you have to see the van in the flesh. Both vwdownunder and Danbury are usually at the Volks World show, and you can compare both the vans side by side, there's quite a big difference between the two interiors. And I think it will boil down to which style you prefer Danbury or Downunder. Both company offer more or less the same features (apart from PAS and the roof conversions) and the total cost of the van will be more or less about the same in the end.

Another factor for us was the location of the two company's. For us Bristol is to far to travel (3-4 hours drive) for servicing etc.. Making the 3 year warranty useless to us. And also (no offence Jason) we read so much bad press about Danbury on various forums that it was off putting.
vwdownunder only offer a 1 years guarantee but we haven't had any problems and what we've saved in petrol money will probably pay for any work needed in the future.

Any how good like with your future purchase

Julian

Wise words everyone.

I'm definitely going to Volksworld - so you're welcome to look at Max there - but he's not for sale!!

There's a thread in the events section for meeting up at the Volksworld show - if anyone wants to - sign up there.

Just dont forget Danbury are the only official dealer for the new 2010 Danbury T2 model. The 3 year warranty can be upgraded to use anywhere if required so you dont have to come to Bristol for servicing if you dont want to (although most people do as they feel happy to use only Danbury for all service or accident repair work etc so they know the job is right and genuine parts used) after all this is a long term purchase and a relationship between dealer and customer. I would suggest to anyone buying that you visit Danbury's new 40,000 sq foot facility in Bristol and see the latest options, vehicle updates and offcourse have a factory tour and see them being made by the 40 or so trained staff there. Danbury also carry £100,000's of parts in stock for their customers when needed. Back up is a big part of any purchase which is why Danbury are the only ones offering a 3 year warranty and latest new models from the VW factory.

Thank you for all the information and for the link Den.
We are looking for a watercooled Van so its got be 2007 or newer.
As for buying new, well its not totally out of the question, but there are vans about for considerably less than new price, already spec'd up.
If you can find them.
We enquired about a 2008 danbury conversion last week but it sold pretty quick, so we have made contact with Annie selling on here and we are hopeful this one suits us and the sale goes through to us with no hiccups??

IF we looked at new, the money we have would barely stretch to a camper interior, we cartainly wouldnt be able to afford paint, wheels ... you know the type of things which make these vans nice.
Also, the value of any new car plummets the second you drive it out of the showroom, and on a high value purchase liek these vans thats alot of money 'lost'

Dont forget with a brand new purchase you get a 2010 model (lots of differences between this and a 2008 or 2009 model) aswell as choosing the colours and spec etc. You also get a 3 year warranty.Hopefully your buying to keep long term so the difference over 10 years will be minimal

Denni - Its not an advertisment it was just helpful advise so people can make a descision based on facts. Were all here to help each other hopefully. Anyone reading this will then know what the differences are in spec and cost and a typical monthly payment.............

"Just as an example: say a new nice spec 2010 model VW T2 camper at £35,000 "

and just as an example, the van we missed out on was a Danbury 2008, FSH, with these options;
Paint
Wheels
Lowered
Camping
240 hook
Pop top
Roof rack

and was £25,000.

Just as an example, like .....

Hi Dean and Jo - The major differences between a 2009 (or older model) and the new 2010 model are numerous. To detail some of the points : New high level rear brake light, new radiator grill, improved paint quality, improved gearbox, speedo is run from the gearbox instead of near side front wheel, new rack and pinion steering and power steering options etc. Hope this helps. All the best - Jason

Hi
My advice to you for whay its worth is to visit & talk to Paul at VW Downunder
As I got mine from there he has amazing attention to detail & is well versed with all things VW camper.
The service & build quality is so very good & he is an honest & genuine trader who tells you it as it is, with no hidden extras.
His after sales service is second to none & he will go the extra mile to ensure his custermers are happy.
As a first time VW camper buyer he helped me in so many ways & he was not pushy at all trying to sell me the van.
He has a depth of knolage & will tell it as it is & with so much choice for all aspects of the internel & external finnish.
I must say that I am very happy with my 2008 water cooled bay.
You as a VW owner will have a lot better idea of what you require than I did when I bought my new van.
But before I committed to buy my camper I visited 2008 vanfest & compared Downunder with Danburys & from this the choice was clear.
But I will say that you may scoop a second hand bargiin by trawling the net for a nearly new Brazilian Bay
Happy hunting hope you get sorted soon

Best regards
Nick
