Some of you remember a slight wing mirror issue Tallulah had at the Kombi Sleepover, for those who don't or if you weren't there, the drivers wing mirror came loose and fell off.
Tim was kind enough to fit it back on before we left for home (thanks again Tim) however the following weekend it worked itself loose again and I only just managed to catch it. The thread on the mirror was completely shot.
We happened to being heading West today so we dropped into Danbury on the way past, rolled into the workshop and Matt was fitted us a nice shiny new one.
So, big thank you to Jason, Matt and the other guys at Danbury for helping us out at such short notice.
Just a shame we were at Danbury a day too late to see the Hammond Bay in person.
Just noticed that our passenger side door mirror is a bit wobbly at the point where it attaches to the door. It's the standard Brazilian Black mirror - as seen below: Advice please on how to locate the nut that needs tightening? osg

Where the mirror housing attaches to the door you will see a very small indentation, prize this off very gently and it will reveal the bolt which you can tighten. If you don't have an Allen key large enough try the square peg on a standard socket set.
Thanks for your help Olive. Mirror now fixed I hope. I improvised a tool by using the hexagonal head of a bolt turned by holding it in Mole Grips. Pictures to follow. osg
That's a good bit of mechotrickery osg! I generally use a pair of mole-grips on the factory bolt.
For those of you wishing to swap factory black mirrors to chrome/stainless steel classic mirrors, having tried several types I recommend the best quality ones sold by Custom and Commercial. They come with a longer thread which is vital to remain solid on the Kombi doors.
Having removed the factory mirrors I recommend you mask the area around the fixing hole with duck tape whilst you're fitting the new mirrors to prevent scratches to the paintwork. It is vital that you fit a sealing grommet at the same time - only 50p each and available in white or black.
Loosen up all parts of the new mirror before fitting, manipulate it all into place and then tighten up - but don't over tighten the fixing to the door as you don't want to strip that thread.

Do you have a link for the right part? Could do with replacing my slightly wobbly easy-pit ones.

Ignore the comment about not fitting the Kombi door - they do - just wind the retaining nut as far towards the opposite end of the thread before fitting them.

Soz, one more silly question. I just noticed your comment re plastic grommets. Do you have a link for the correct ones, or do I probably already have them somewhere hidden underneath the existing mirrors?

You should already have a grommet on each side - they can be white or black - but if you don't I highly recommend you get some as they prevent water ingress. White ones work best against the Candy White paintwork imo. Don't forget to ask for our club discount!

Very nice and individual, got all the van ready for Stef's wedding and guess forgot the mirrors mine are corroded but have cleaned up but very dimpley. Will try and get some new ones but where from ? time is running out. Tim
It's more the size and position I'm keen on, Tim, although I'll happily take you up on your offer, with grace and gratitude!
I have enough trouble seeing out of the windscreen let alone the mirrors. I thiought big ones would be suitable for both of us, making adjustment unecessary.
Oh, and I like the look and individuality of them!

I suppose it depends on your definition of 'damage', Tim!
I can't get my next door neighbour to do it in his body shop as he's, most inconveniently, just sold his business. I obviously wasn't giving him enough work!

You could fit the Go Westy mirrors which were a standard bit of kit on certain T25 models. But you'd have to get round the lower fitting somehow. I'm sure it's achievable but they do only come in black.
Have you looked for a US car parts dealer near you? If you could find somewhere that specialises in pick-up trucks such as a Dodge Ram, then they may have something suitable.

I would like to change my wing mirrors to stainless steel. Can someone advise me if this pair from Just Kampers would fit. It's difficult to tell if the thread is long enough.

Most fit HH, the trick is to wind the retaining nut as far back on the thread BEFORE fitting the mirrors and plastic grommet into the door, to get as much grip as possible. Use mole-grips/spanner to do so.
