Subject: Respray and some remedial rust work Sun Oct 07, 2012 6:43 pm
Hello Everyone.
I am looking to have my van resprayed and some (minor) rust issues dealt with at the same time (bottom of sliding door, bootlid and underneath one window - nothing overly major but a good opportunity to sort).
Can anyone recommend a good outfit ?
Price is important as who's made of money, but I'd rather pay a bit more for a quality job than just a cheap fix.
I live near J24 M1 and am happy to travel 100 miles on any compass bearing for the right place.
Any input appreciated.
Regards, AmboAndy.

Hi AmboAndy, welcome along. Sorry I can't help with this particular question as I'm not local to those parts. I'm sure someone will be along shortly with a recommendation.

Hi Amboandy - we live in Leicester and there are a couple of good peoplle in the area that could sort you out - so to speak. Johnson's Autoworks - he is based at Wymeswold off the A46 and also Absolute VW who are based in Castle Donington - very close to you. There is also a guy in Loughborough who we used for engine work and he is totally trustworthy - he is called Carl and his workshop is called Pirate VW - no website but I can give you his number if you want.

Thanks Julian (and hello Tim), I'll bob over to wymeswold and let the good folk at johnsons have a look at the van so that they can better formulate a price. Simon at Absolute VW I've known for years but was unaware that he did paintwork inhouse. I'd be grateful for Pirate VWs phone number as its always good to get a couple of quotes for any mechanical work to be undertaken. Many thanks. Amboandy.

Pretty sure Absolute do everything - but I may be wrong. A call doesn't cost much. Carl's (Pirate VW) number is 07885540005.
Let me know how you get on - hopefully we will bump into at some stage.

Hi everyone
Has anybody had any paintwork done yet, we have various stone chips and some surface rust to deal with. Having had no real experience, do I go for a full respray to avoid patches of colour, or can these be blended quite well these days????

Hi, we can send panels off to have them colour matched by eye, the match is 99% of the time perfect! We can also blend and loose the repairs / paint lines so you will never know.
We can also (for Brazilian Bay Members only) repaint your lower half in the colour of your choice for only £800 - £1000 depending on damage and so forth!
