Hi

Heading to Brazil and keen to buy a good, used T2. Anyone any website/classified ad tips as to where I can look / advertise? Many thanks

Before you spend your hard earned cash, I would suggest you look at just how easy it is to get the vehicle out of Brazil and into Europe.

Once you overcome that issue, then actually buying a Kombi will be straightforward.

This is where Danbury and others make their killing, they have agents who do the buying from the factory, as buying from the "street" is not as easy as you would think.

Good luck...

Hi, it is possible in general (did this in 2005 on my own to Germany). However it was very complicated indeed!

An option would be to declare it as personal property imported by natural persons. This however makes it necessary that you have a residence in Brazil and the car was registered on you/your residence for about a year.

See Council Regulation (EEC) No 918/83 of 28 March 1983
setting up a Community system of reliefs from customs duty.

After that it would be much easier to register the car in Europe.

The regular way is very hard (maybe not feasible) in terms of financial and time investment.

Good look anyway!

Hi I run an import export Customs agency and we import
goods from worldwide including numerous personal vehicles.
To import a vehicle into the Uk tax free you have to have owned and used the vehicle in the country of origin and you country of residence for at least six months and paid all local duties and vat.

If you ship a new vehicle import duty is 10% of the purchase price plus the shipping charges , then 20% VAT is payable on the purchase price , shipping charges and the import duty.

That gets it though Customs but not sure what hoops you go though getting it registered for use on the road what I do know is Once imported Hmrc send out either a C&E 386 or 388 which you then send to Dvla with the application to get the vehicle registered.

I would avoid calling the Hmrc advice line they are useless and give out incorrect information.

More than happy to assist anyone with clearing and delivering a vehicle from any Uk port.

Presumably the vehicle would also need to meet all required regulations for its type and year of manufacture before DVLA will register it for use in the UK.

Things like side repeaters and rear fog lights need to be added...

Is it so restrictive on used vehicles, noting that was what op was and this thread has drifted towards new.

Yeah not sure on that Tallulah know how to get them in but not sure on Dvla restrictions...

Used are only used when you have used em yourself for over six months.... Second hand vehicles still attract duty and vat on the purchase price...

Am not a customs officers , just an independent Customs agent... Www.harbourshipping.co.uk
