PostSubject: Insurance - bah humbug   Fri Apr 05, 2013 10:12 am

Just had insurance renewal documents in from Comfort. Thought I would get a slight reduction in premium, as I have had a claim free year and so starting to build up my NCD. As if. In fact I am actually asked to pay 10% more this year, which even taking into consideration a small increase in premium, I thought excessive. So I rang Comfort and apparently Aviva, who underwrite the scheme, are no longer insuring vehicles kept on the road.

So, there you have it. Keep your camper on the road and you might end up paying more, or even, if a new customer, not get a quote at all.

Might have to shop around but, as is always the case, they send out papers at the last minute and I have little time to do a decent search.

Ours ever so slightly less this year but Tallulah is kept on the drive.

From memory, Comfort were 20-30% cheaper than any other quote we received last year, so even with a 10% increase you may find its still the cheapest.

But if you do find a cheaper one there will surely be another mass migration!

Definitely not Smile but an effective 20% gross premium increase is high even for that.

Just waiting for my renewal from Comfort
. Eddie is kept in the garage so I'm not expecting much if any of an increase. Safeguard are pestering me so I might see what they can offer.

Yes, Safeguard rang and wrote to me, so might give them a call.

EDIT - rang them and think I'll be staying with Comfort. Safeguard came in £300 more expensive and didn't include driving another vehicle while mine being serviced.

No wonder they're pestering us so much. With that quote they'll struggle to get any business.

Just actually moved to comfort from safeguard , Safeguard renewal was £420 , Comfort like for like £257.... Ours is garaged so fingers crossed premiums wont increase too much next year , unless of course the garage is hit by something from North Korea!

Don't talk to me about insurance ! One of our other cars is a Honda Jazz - covered 3rd party f and t. Got broke into this week and a bike in the boot was stolen. Bike not covered as it is not factory fitted (!) and the damage wouldn't have been covered if nothing had been stolen. But because something had been stolen, which I can't claim for, the damage is covered !! Anyone care to explain - a rhetorical question !!

JLS. I could explain if you really want me too Very Happy

Not quite sure why you would expect a bike to be covered under your car policy, thats what home contents policies are for. Did you make much of a saving by reducing from Comp to TPF& T? Bent metal and thefts are less important to insurers than Personal Injury claims these days. The saving for a reduction is cover is often tiny.

Sorry to hear about your incident though. Really annoying when something like this happens.

I've just had my renewal quote - Club Care Insurance through the Camping & Caravanning club - its exactly the same as last year - £ 338 - which I thought was pretty good considering Zoe is kept on the road & we live in the middle of south east London.
I might check around as I've got a couple of weeks before its due.

On-line quotes are coming out as £500+ even from Adrian Flux - Comfort wouldn't quote me at all! - so I think I'll be sticking with C&CC. Includes breakdown cover too.
Is that good? I can't imagine I'll get anything cheaper - unless someone knows different?????

Considering I'm paying more than that for outside London, I think it is very good. Comfort wouldn't quote for you because of "on the road" parking. Apparently Aviva, the underwriters, have stopped this for all new business. They will continue with existing customers, albeit with a premium hike.

Doesn't sound like you've got a bad renewal price to me Ellie, I'd stay put if I were you.

Just arranged cover with Comfort after trying unsuccessfully for 6 hours yesterday to even get a quote of any kind from any of the specialist or mainstream insurers. Wife had 2 fault claims last year.
Phoned Comfort this morning, obviously expecting the worst but sorted in 15 minutes, and semi-reasonable premium considering the circumstances.
Absolutely brilliant and I therefore can't recommend them highly enough!
Thanks for the recommendations and advice as always, everyone.

PostSubject: Short term insurance    Sat Apr 02, 2016 10:04 pm

Hello,
Is this the right place for insurance questions? Our van insurance with Adrian flux has just ran out.  We are trying to get van insurance which is for only a month or 2, as unfortunately we are going to have to sell van soon (watch out for post about this soon).  When we asked Adrian Flux they would only give us £50 off the annual fee for any insurance less than 12months.  Seems a bit steep! Is this normal? Can anyone got any recommendations? Many thanks.

I think it's fairly normal. When we took out our insurance it was made clear that there would not be any refunds if we terminated early. I think that the insurance companies realise that most vans are only used for half the year anyway. You might just have to ring round all the insurance companies and see if you can get short-term cover.
