PostSubject: Kombi alone this weeekend   Thu Jun 06, 2013 11:22 am

Mrs B is off to our Static this weekend with two of her girlie friends (it'll be carnage - I'd stay away from Sedbergh and Dentdale if I was you, Geoff!) so that leaves me with two options.

I could stay at home and do some jobs around the house or Boz and I could escape somewhere in Absinthe. Any guesses as to my preferred option?

Trouble is, I've not been away on my own in the Camper before and I fear I may get bored (I'm quite needy, as Alison will confirm). So, any suggestions?

I might go back to Usher Gap in Muker and head up to Keld to walk some of the C2C again. The hay meadows should be flowering and I could take some photos I suppose. They don't have electrickery though and I'd be lost on my own without my phone and ipad to amuse me.

The Lakes is an option but it'll be heaving in the sunshine. Appleby's out as the Horse Fair will be on this weekend.

Any Northerners got any favouirite sites I should visit?

Thanks for the tip - sounds like fun - we might just head on up there drunken

The meadows round Wensleydale are full of buttercups now and the farmers are even taking the first grass crop off, Keld should be lovely, we've also stayed at Park House site (by the Tan Hill turn--off) a short stroll to the Keld Lodge, or there's Park Lodge where we had lunch on our Autumn walk last year. Then there's the Goredale Scar campsite at Malham somewhere we want to try soon.

Have fun - if you need power I've got a generator I'm keen to get rid of.

Geoff

I think I've got a similar one to yours Geoff that my Business partner gave me - not used it yet cos it's so heavy and quite noisy. Maybe I need a new Honda one.

Hey Absinthe - I may be old fashioned but why not take a book/s, go to bed when it gets dark (late as you are north) and get up in the morning when it gets light. Go for a walk because you can.

And if you are really stuck for something to do - think of me on Saturday night - I am doing a 100km bike ride round London for charity with a start time of 12:40am !!

JLS - you're so old fashioned!

Books are all on the Ipad (via Kindle) - walking will deffo be on the Agenda (I've been known to do a bit of walking, although Boz isn't as fit as he was!) .

As for your bike ride - why are you starting then? - I'd be finished by 4am. It's only just over 60 miles. I did Manchester to Balckpool (the same distance) every year for 15 years until Kombi trips started to get in the way a couple of years ago.. It's a doddle...

I am taking part in the London Nightrider - an annual charity bike ride. 4000 cyclists setting off in groups at half hour intervals. The distance isn't a problem - the challenge is the night bit !! May be a bit stiff after last week's sprint triathlon though !!

Am doing it for LOROS - our local hospice - in memory of a friend who sadly died last year at the age of 41 !! If you fancy throwing me a couple of pounds - feel free. Whatever you do - feel priviledged that you are able to do it.

Have a fab weekend whatever you do.

Since we have Tallulah a new leisure battery we can get 2 days with the fridge on, stereo, charging phones and iPad and using the lights for a bit in the evenings.

We've got a cheap (read quite noisy) geni too but can't see us having to use it now.

We'll be in Wales this weekend, staying at Fforest Fields with some friends and attending the annual Man vs Horse cross country race.

We support Wigan & Leigh Hospice - all our efforts go into that and a great place it is too. Good luck on the ride Julian.

Tim - I'm tempted but maybe a bit too far...

That's made me think Keith. I thought I couldn't charge the phone without hook up but the new radio has an iphone/ipod/ipad connector - I'm guessing it would charge from the leisure battery without having to plug into a socket.

Should last for a couple of days easily. Very Happy

We charge our iphone and ipad through the radio

It links from the back of the radio by a wire that comes into the glovebox

Works really well

We also play music from the iphone so no cd's needed

Into your leisure battery, Steve? How/where does it fit? I'm ok when we're driving, it's when we 're parked without hook up that I struggle.

Plugs into the leisure battery via the cigarette lighter. I have the one in the dash and another one in the kick board under the rear seat

Interesting - does anyone know if the standard cigarette socket in my Kombi will be wired to the main battery, the leisure battery or both?

I know that I ought to know, but I can't recall trying it when the key was out.

Not sure how and what Danbury wire to the leisure battery as I fitted mine myself but you could try pulling the fuse for it. Under the steering wheel it's the 2nd one up from the bottom right. Pull this and see if it still works, if it doesn't I would think its still wired to the main battery. Also if it doesn't work with the ignition off then it's also on the main battery

Hi Abs easiest way to check plug something in and see if it goes on and off with the ignition switch, mine the cig lighter in the dash is fed from the engine battery but the one I put in by the bed is fed from the leisure battery. Tim

Cig lighter on dash is normally wired to main battery.

I've added two 12v sockets for charging devices from the leisure battery, one above the battery meter under the rear seat, that is used when in 'seats' configuration, and one on the rear of the gas cabinet next to the spare wheel (our spare is inside, no rear wardrobe) which is just perfect for bed mode.

The 12v aux charger we bought has two USB sockets so we can charge 2 devices at the same time which is also very useful.
