| After ordering my Cobb Kitchen in a box yesterday, it duly arrived today. Got to love companies that give you free next day delivery. Even more impressed that the carrier sent me an email this morning telling me what time they'd arrive (and they did arrive as specified). So, on opening the big box (the little one was just the cobblestone fuel blocks) I was presented with my free gifts (32 quids worth) - a Cobb lighter, one of those long reach ones, and a bag of BBQ tools, silicon tipped as appropriate. These were thanks to a pre-ordering search of the internet to find discount codes, which I then applied as I checked out. Opening the bag revealed all of these goodies - the dome cover and extension, frying pan, frying dish, griddle, roasting rack & chicken mount, as well as the main item. This is the outer case, grill grid, fire grid, inner sleeve & moat, and lifting fork. Hopefully get to play with it soon. Just waiting for the various water companies to lift their drought orders.... Had a laugh trying to get it all back into the bag. Took me a very long time working out what stacked in what. I should be better next time.

Sounds like you're a dab hand. How long have you been cooking on yours and what sort of foods?

| We bought ours at vanfest from JK so still learning, they are quite differcult to light especially the cobble stones use a gas powered lighter. Once lit you are away approx 4mins warm up to cooking times and a good 2hrs cooking, we even use it at home. | |

Well, hopefully this won't be a problem as one of the free gifts was the Cobb lighter. Think I'll be giving it a trial run in the house this weekend. Nothing too adventurous, maybe just roast a chicken and some veg. I'll leave the cake baking for later.

NOT A GOOD IDEA - don't take a BBQ inside - Carbon monoxide isn't good for you.

osg I know. Don't worry, I'll be sitting it on top of my cooker, under the extractor fan. I also have several CO detectors throughout my house. It will be strictly a one off event.

| lostlogik Relieved that your cooker plans seem to cover the risk of CO poisoning - but remember it's a bit heavier that air. osg | |

but remember it's a bit heavier that air. osg Scientifically speaking, I was under the impression CO is actually lighter than air (but only just). But being a gas, and prone to air currents/mixing etc there is negligible difference. But with the thermal (heating) effect it should rise and so be safely sucked up the extractor and out of the house.

| lostlogic, yes I stand corrected - CO 12+16 ->28 lighter than Air -> 28.8 (one fifth oxygen @32 and four-fifths nitrogen at 28 = 28. I'm happy just so long as you and any others reading this thread are saved from any danger by indoor use of a BBQ. osg | |

| EDIT - thankfully the weather forecast is actually showing sunshine for tomorrow so all cooking will be carried out safely outside. No dangerous experiments.
BBQs should never be used indoors. CO poisoning accounts for 50+ deaths a year in the UK. (Source CO Alarms Ltd) Unbelievable.

| Well the Cobb BBQ trial went well. Roast chicken, butternut squash, potatoes and carrots all cooked and given the seal of approval from my two girls. Well, all except the butternut squash, which they didn't think a lot of and so I won't be buying again (can't say I'm too bothered by it either). The chicken was incredibly moist and tasted lovely.
Points of note: Cobbstones are a pain to light, though I think I got the knack in the end. Once lit they took about 5 mins to stop smoking and be ready for cooking. Vegetables don't need as long as meat (Doh!) All cooked nicely in 1.5 hours. (stones burn for a little over 2hours) Quite a lot of cleaning at the end (coal tray, main unit, roasting tray and rack, lid, extension ring, which is only really necessary for big roasts) but easy enough to do.
It really is fit and forget. Well almost. I put the chicken on, turned it once after half an hour and threw in the veg and then took it all off an hour later. That's all I did. If I fancy a roast while camping, this is definitely the way to do it.
Next thing to try to cook is the pizza. My girls really liked the look of that. Details when done.
