| Looks neat. I wonder how heavy it is. Those tubes look fairly beefy. | |

| Interesting bike But it does not fold up as small as the one we tried at the weekend Our friends son had a Sinclair 'A' frame bike It folds down in to a back pack of around 100mm wide x 400mm long! Here is yours truly modelling it at Dub Aid this weekend What do you mean it does not look practical . . . | The wife has a folding mountain bike. She would fold it while on the train going to work and get it into a car if needed, but otherwise it was just like any other mountain bike, just a bit lighter and with a hinge in the middle! ________________________________________________________________________________ www.alpinegrovetouringpark.com Twitter: @AlpineGrove Facebook: facebook.com/alpinegrovetouringpark

A bit lighter, even when taking into consideration all the bracing needed for chopping a frame in half? My mtb is pretty light but can't imagine wacking a great big fold in the middle would make it lighter. I'd also be a bit concerned about riding out on it mtb trails, integrity wise. Genuinely intrigued. What's the make?

| Mrs B and I bought a couple of second hand Bromptons off Ebay this year - they are great quality and fold really well. They seem to hold their value as well so if we don't use them very often I can always sell them on. ________________________________________________________________________________ Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder

Its a Dahon but they don't make anything quite like it any more, I bought it second hand off of Ebay 8-10 years ago! It's around 12kgs from memory, not the lightest, but lighter than mine! Its a bit like the Dahon Jack, but without the top crossbar and with shocks on the front forks. It rarely gets folded these days as the wife's commute to work is only about a mile, it was about 30 miles with 20 ish miles on the train in the middle when we bought it, ideal! ________________________________________________________________________________ www.alpinegrovetouringpark.com Twitter: @AlpineGrove Facebook: facebook.com/alpinegrovetouringpark

| Thanks for that. Looks interesting but more a hybrid than mtb. I already have a good mtb (Rocky Mountain) but if I was in the market for a new bike (too many things to buy at the moment) I'd quite like the Strida MAS | |

I used to sell bikes and sold a few Dahon's in my time very nice bikes well made and good folding mechanism. I also like the Bromptons but never seen one in the flesh.

| Thinking of getting a folding bike as more practical for me that a bike rack. How did your get on with yours stephenjedward , and would it fit into the roof rack?
Anyone else out there who's recently purchased one and would recommend it please let me know...
Cheers.. Steve ________________________________________________________________________________ Steve, Jo TigerLily and Carra the Child lovin' Golden Cocker

| Hi yes I am happy with mine. fits on my roof rack folded - its needs a little trial and error to lash it on safely depending on the design of your rack.. I also just fold it and stow on the floor - depends how much other stuff we are carrying.. - beakyboy wrote:

| Cheers SJE and Abs , very helpful , our rack is flat so hopefully won't have to many issues lashing it down... Just need to convince Mrs A that I need one now ________________________________________________________________________________ Steve, Jo TigerLily and Carra the Child lovin' Golden Cocker | |

| Another option, if you want to splash the cash, is a Moulton.
I have to confess to an interest, in that they were invented in my now, home town by Dr Alex Moulton, and they were the original small wheeled bike. (His other claim to fame is that he worked with Alec Issigonis on the Mini suspensions)
He sadly died a couple of years ago aged 90 plus, but I did meet him once, a typical British inventor, brilliant but slightly eccentric.

| The Moultons are great, if, like their designer, a little eccentric. ________________________________________________________________________________ Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder
