We had our second try at putting up the Glawning last week - much more successful than at the Sleepover:

Scooby doo like the video, but the duration of only four minutes or so was not as entertaining as watching it in real time at the Kombi Sleepover this year  Wink

We did actually high five but it was too quick to see! It also fails to show properly the bit where I chased after Alison threatening her with the hammer (2.04)...

Yes, ours is from Devon Daisy - it's been much admired this weekend at Larmer Tree - and used a lot a as a landmark for people to find their way back to base!

The Glawning people have an all new model for 2016 with a very generous 20% off this month.

I'm very tempted but my concern is how much space it'll take up in the trailer - will it be any more than the Kyham ? They have a lovely new wood burner as part of the package. I'm wondering if I can squeeze that in too. It's a lovely cream colour but how easy is it to keep clean especially if pitched in a muddy field? Is it a pain to dry out  if it gets wet?  It will need to act as an extra sleeping area as our 12 year lad has declared he doesn't want to go up into the 'coffin' any longer. Sad
It's this or a teardrop.
Decision, decisions........

I think you probably know our views on the Glawning, hh.  We're very tempted by the new style one with a built in groundsheet and zipped parts.

As far as room in the trailer is concerned, we can get ours in the trailer with no problems. When we went to the Hebrides we carried it on the rack.

It will get some mud on it (I'm laid back about stuff like that but I know you verge towards ocd). The new stove looks ace but I suspect it will take up more space than the frontier.

I see that they now sell a sleeping compartment for the Glawning which might be useful for Charley. Of your going to use it for sleeping you may wish to consider the 5m one.

Drying it if you've had to put it away wet can be a bit of a pain. We spread it out on top of the trailer in the garage. If we had a big enough garden we'd put it up there. In fact if we had a big enough garden we'd have it up all summer in there.

In France last year we didn't attach it to the van but used it mainly for storage (and to hide from tyst thunderstorm.

The 20% deal is so tempting...

We bought a regular 4m bell tent this year so we can use it for extra sleeping if/when we have any extra children with us. It's been up in the garden a few times - once as an cinema for a 10th birthday party - and it came with us to DinF as a test run - I think we managed 12 adults and a dog inside from memory...

I use a folded tarp underneath the bell tent to keep the underside of the ground sheet relatively clean.

I think with some further testing we can configure the van, the bell tent and one or more sun canopy or shade to suit all needs without needing the 2nd door.

While the glawning does look great and the 20% offer is indeed very good, a 4m bell tent with zipped in ground sheet remains considerably cheaper.

That's a good point, Keith.

You can certainly get a bell tent much more cheaply. We just like the two door configuration and the flexibility it gives. You pays your money and takes your choice I guess.

Unfortunately that makes it still 4/5 of a fortune.....

A regular 4m bell tent is still less than 1/2 of this 20% reduced fortune.

Indeed, what makes it a glawning is the extra door, so technically they make another hole and charge more!

Yes I know that means extra poles and a connecting thingy too, but my point stands, if you can't afford a glawning you can still get close with a regular bell tent and some creative sun shade positioning.

This set up would work but you would obviously lose the front entrance. As you say that's why you pay the design premium on a Glawning.

I hooked up a Moroccan style light into the Glawning this weekend. It looked great and certainly made it glow up in the evening.
