awning - JK Spacemaker Awning Empty
PostSubject: JK Spacemaker Awning   awning - JK Spacemaker Awning EmptyWed Jul 09, 2014 10:13 am

My van came with one of these awnings. I used it for the first time over the weekend, and when it rained there seemed to be no way to prevent pools of rainwater gathering in the section which connects it to the gutter. I had to keep knocking the collected water out, and I am sure that if it had rained all night it would have collected enough water to burst it. Has anyone found a fix to this sort of problem, other than throwing it away and buying a new awning?

It's a common problem I think - the two awnings we've had both collected water there - I think it's strong enough not to split but you're right, it means a need to push it off on a regular basis.

The answer is only to visit places that are dry!

Do you know of such a place?  Very Happy By the way, it did occur to me to make a couple of pinholes where the water collects. It's certainly not ideal, but it would avoid collecting a couple of gallons in the course of the night.

I don't know any in the North West, I'm afraid...

The pin pricks would work, I guess, but you'd have all that water in front of the door of your van which wouldn't be ideal.

Not the same awning, but the one we have has a small telescopic pole and a horizontal bar with a t-bar connector in the middle. The t-bar connects to the top of the telescopic pole and the ends fit into a small pockets at either end of the connection tunnel. This not only stops it sagging, but creates enough tension (and a small dome shape) to aid water runoff so no pooling occurs.

I'm sure almost any connection tunnel could be easily adapted to accommodate such a device, it's just a case of locating the parts in a suitable camping supplies shop.

Failing that, contact campershop.co.uk (who supplied our Outlaw awning) and ask if they can supply the tunnel support poles for an Outlaw awning on their own.

My awning looks identical to the Royal Traveller 3 on the campershop site. I'll try contacting them.
