Gone and got myself one of these

Biolite

It's a wood burning stove with a USB port so you can charge your gadgets at the same time.

Not sure it's got the 1.21 giggawatts I need, but it's a start

We agree, doo you know the burn time to power output ratio?

(It'll never replace the flux capacitor)

The fire kicks out about 5kW and the USB output is 5v 4W (max continuous). 1 liter of water boils in under 5mins and you need 46g of wood to boil 1 liter.

When it turns up I'll take it for a test burn and see how well it works

oh, I failed to note you'd bought one. Just reread the first post again and see you said you'd got one. Congrats on good gadget purchase.

Just taken it for a test burn. Wow that thing kicks off some heat. Haven't coked or boiled water yet to see how well it does but don't think it will be a problem. Works pretty good as a mini firepit too. It does go through wood pretty quick though.

Once everything is up to heat the led by the USB port turns green and you can then charge your phone etc

And to top it all off. It's Orange  cheers

Looks impressive. Nice alternative to a smoking washer drum though I wonder how many could sit around it Smile

Had a good few uses of it over the summer so here's a quick review.

As a stove it's great, gets up to heat really quick and will boil the kettle about the same time as the gas burner. It's also nice to keep the burner going and use it for some heat when sitting and chilling outside, you do need to get quite close to it though to get the full benefit. The other good thing is the outside of the unit stays cool to touch, even with the burner going you can still pick it up.

The USB charging side of things isn't as good though. Modern phones have some big high power batteries which it struggles with, after about 1 1/2 hrs it only charged my phone by 3%. The other problem was the soot, the Base of the kettle is now black and to store the orange charger part after use it goes inside the metal part so it can all fit in the bag and ends up dirty, this was simply fixed though by wrapping kitchen roll around the charger then putting it inside.

Conclusion - As a burner great, as a charger not. As an extra plus it's orange so not too fussed about the charger Smile
