It sounds like you might still have the original shifter, in which case consider swapping it out for an EMPI, although I'm told that a SCAT might be better, and a CSP better still. Plenty of people on the Volkszone board recommend Manchester Air-Cooled (MAC VW) in Stretford, although one of the members of this board had a really bad experience there and recommended Autopoint in Knutsford. They (Autopoint) are not VW specialists, but the proprietor, Jon Mawby, has a T25 at home and a T2 on the forecourt that he is renovating. He was very helpful and finally fixed the problems with my shifter by re-welding the lockout plate which had been dislodged by a local tyre depot. I've also had a recommendation for Muddy Fields Campervans at Warrington, but I've got no personal experience.

By the way, it seems that 2nd and reverse are very close together, so you need a good well-adjusted lockout plate to prevent accidental engagement of reverse.

Thanks I will google it unless you have a link I think there is a fault with the lockout plate or linkage as danbury and i have adjusted it if you select reverse then take it to first you can then select reverse without going past the plate if you move it to 4th from reverse its usually ok!!

Probably the plate, ours has been adjusted on several occasions. The lockout ramp can get worn or clogged with muck so that it reduces the amount of 'push' needed to engage reverse.

Clean it up, maybe even bend it a bit more to increase the amount of 'push', and make sure the bolts are nice and tight to it doesn't move.

Failing that, replace with an EMPI, SKAT or CSP - ours will be replaced with an EMPI when it starts to cause problems again.

It needs no push after first engagement of reverse Smile I will have a look at updated ones someone recommended looking at the bush where the link meets the gearbox as it can cause sloppy change too
