From 1995, the only place Kombis were being built was Brazil so it's reasonable to assume that anything with a reg showing 1995 or later will be Brazilian.

Visually, the Brazilian has a higher roof line (by 10cm) than anything before it although there was a short run '91-94 I think of these in Mexico too. The front doors have a strengthening element at the bottom - there is a technical term for this but I can't remember what it is - showing as the proud dome ridge.

The sliding door of a Brazilian is on the right, there are others with this too, but 'most' other Kombis have it on the left.

And the big tell for anything older than 2006/7 will be the front radiator grill or dummy wheel cover.

The majority of Brazilians that have a pop top have the 'Danbury style' one which is quite distinctive although other roof types are becoming slightly more common now.

I'm sure there are other ways you can tell too.

The grille between the front indicator lenses has horizontal slats as opposed to vertical.

Bumpers are curved and similar to those fitted to the Early Bay.

The vast majority have side repeater indicators fitted as part of the UK conversion.

The previous answers highlight most of the differences.
The newer versions also have a high level rear brake light.
We wave at what ever VW camper we pass.

Tallulah
We know it as a 'swage line' on the cab doors - not sure where we heard it from originally.

"Swage line" was mentioned in the C&B article couple of months ago when they did a feature of the final edition brazi bay

The roof is the best way to spot a brazilian bay Smile
