PostSubject: Brasilia Model   Brasilia Model EmptyTue Jul 21, 2015 6:45 pm

I have seen for sale a Brazilia model kombi from 1978. Its unusually a 14 window Bay window model but with barn doors. I cant find anything of that vintage and with that type of cargo door. The advert says its a type T2-c but all descriptions say that belongs to the 1990's not the seventies. It appears to be a very rare vehicle. Any knowledge about this vehicle would be gratefully received. Will the parts be hard to source for such a unique vehicle. Any help gratefully received for what would be my first bay.

This may be the one dugmog is referring to for those who know about this model.

Yes that's the one. It looks absolutely what I am looking for as its a bus rather than a camper. Never heard of a barn door variant though.

Found something similar on the forum that had come from South Africa, as this is a RHD I suspect it may be South African too?

That's a reasonable deduction.

If you are seriously thinking about this one, it may be worth doing some detailed enquiries before parting with any money.

If you look at the sellers other ads, they have another T2 for sale, and apartments in South Africa for rent, and although they say they are in the West End of London, the pictures look more like they could have been taken in a hot country, from the foliage, so the vans might still be there.

Just saying........ I may be totally wrong. Smile

I think there is a risk buying this - unless you see it in the flesh, don't part with any money. There are too many scams, particularly things with prices which are too good to be true.

Cheers all. I have asked to go and see it. I suspect its still in South Africa at that price. By the time I have imported it with all the the duty involved I suspect it would look a more expensive beast. Might be a case of keep looking.

The vehicle is in Johannesburg.  They are offering to ship it, anyone know a reputable agent in South Africa.  has anyone imported a vehicle before and got it sorted out for the UK.  Funnily enough the camper magazines covered importing your own vehicle last month.  Am I biting of more than I can chew....

@beakyboy might be able to help with the importing procedure. I'm sure he'll be along before long.

Thanks for the heads up @absinthekombi , @timv and yes @dugmog more than happy to help you with clearance in the UK and could put you in touch with a forwarder who can offer prices for shipping but a guesstimate would be £2500 port to port.

I think a recent Volksworld publication did an article on importing and whilst informative it did miss some bits out.. If the vehicle is over 30 years old and un-modified you can ask Customs for a binding tariff agreement to effectively import it as a collectors item and if granted you wouldn't pay any import duty and VAT would only be levied at 5%. If Customs do not grant this permission Import Duty is 10% of the purchase price and shipping costs and then on top of that you have 20% VAT to pay which is payable on the purchase price , shipping costs and the import duty.

You'd have to apply for a binding tariff agreement well in advance of arranging any shipment as without a Customs certificate verifying they permit importation as a collectors item available at the time of import you would have to pay the duty plus standard rate VAT and reclaim it at a later date.

It's daunting but I'm sure If you wanted to go ahead I could assist you accordingly.

I'll PM you my work email and my telephone number so feel free to get in touch.

Hope this helps
Steve
