No problem John - it would have been a bit of a struggle to find each other anyway I think.

Started sorting the van for trip to France - although not sure why as we are off to Cornwall first !! Bike rack fitted, useful items like bunting (!) stored and under seat items checked.

Will be packed to the gunnels !!

Just returned from our European tour (Santander to Roscoff) - front screen looks like a bug war zone.

I decided to buy one of those OBD2 toys for Sunny.

And as a result, I can show stuff like this on my phone;

That looks like an impressive bit of kit. Which model did you get and where from? Also how easy was it to fit?

Easy to fit - just plug it in.

I went for the OBD LINK MX from Scantool. I decided I didn't want one of the cheap-chipped ones as I've seen / read a lot about the problems they (may) have. Also liked its security scheme to prevent unauthorized access if the transmitter is left plugged in. One final benefit was its battery saver feature, which puts the unit to sleep when not in use, so you can leave it plugged in without danger of draining your car’s battery.

Its supposed to be up to 4x faster than others, so faster screen updates and more graph points.

Also have the OBDwiz diagnostic software on my tablet (thankfully no error codes recorded so nothing to show on that page, so here's another page);

Good work Sunny. Been toying with the idea of the OBDII and app for ages but never got properly round to it. Has just sparked the imagination again

Certainly a great idea to see the engine temp. Worth it for that alone.

Part of the reason I wanted this. It really annoyed me not knowing what my water temp was.

That's interesting - driving down to Gloucester on Thursday evening, the stop start nature of the M6 and M5 caused our fan to come on.

As soon as we started to move again it went off.

Would knowing the water temp have helped? What would you do if it showed it being too high (what would be too high btw?)

I too have had the fan come on a couple of times, in stop start traffic but as you say, it cut out as soon as I started moving again. I've no idea what the temp parameters are supposed to be but I do miss having a temperature gauge; I like to keep an eye on things. Handy to know if the temp is creeping into the red.

Decided to re-furbish my grease gun, which hadn't seen much use in recent years, thanks to modern cars.

Cleaned out all the old grease ready for the new stuff, now just got to find all the grease points (allegedly 15 in total)

Great to see you both at Beach Buggin. We too attempted to stop off and wave goodbye to our foreign travellers. Unfortunately we got caught in traffic and missed them! Bon Voyage.

I decided to take the roof rack off for it's annual refurb and started to wish I hadn't, so this may be of help to those with the bow-shaped ones, (I don't know whether the fixing system applies to other types).

The problem was that the square nuts that rely on the shape of the bracket to stop them turning, had well and truly rusted on to the bolt. Every-time  I turned the bolt the nut went with it as there was not enough grip. There was no space to get any type of spanner on it either.

After a frustrating hour-plus of trying everything, together with a stack of penetrating fluid, I gave up and had a coffee, and came up with the idea of using a piece of wire (a bit of coat-hanger) between the nut and bracket so the nut couldn't turn.  Bingo ....it worked.

As a temporary measure until I can think of anything better, and to stop having the same problem again, I ditched the nuts and replaced them with wing nuts which are reversed on the bolt.

Hopefully they will be too wide to turn in the channel.

Once again Tallulah is doing her duty as a removals van, not for the first time this year and it won't be the last either.

This time taking everything stored in our loft to a storage lockup round the corner. She'll be bringing it all back in a few months when the builders have done their thing.
