Anyone know of a website where I can purchase a replacement for the plastic heater/ventilation lever to the right of the steering wheel?

Would like something chrome/aluminium.

Is this possible?

I was looking for something like that earlier this year but couldn't find anything

MCJ products who make other aluminium products that I have bought and are really good. I did send them the plastic lever to show him the mechanism of the brazilian ones to see if he could produce something but haven't seen on his site. I have never chased him up on it but it might be worth you sending an email to him.

That's interesting, as I was just looking at:

But didn't know if they would fit our van???

The ones on the MCJ site won't fit the brazilian van

Hi Tim
Was in touch with the fella there when doing my van as you know how I like my bling. Ended up with the steering wheel, handbrake handle and door pull handles. Sent him the plastic pull switches and heater lever to see if he could do some to fit our vans. He was quite busy at the time but said he would look at doing something in the future.
The steering wheel was a relatively easy fit after a call to him. The handbrake was tricky taking out the metal pin. The inner door handles use different holes from the plastic handles
The only fault I could place with MCJ is the lack of instructions to follow - not that I ever read them until I have had a go myself!

Tim
That's all really useful.
My plan is to completely bling my van.
I've had a nice interior and I'm keen to make the inside as gorgeous as I can.
Was the steering wheel hard to fit?

I had help from someone who knows alot more than me. It wouldn't be something I would have wanted to tackle on my own. If you are patient and have decent DIY skills you should be ok. We ended up ringing the fella at MCJ and he talked us step by step through it. He was very helpful - wish I could remember his name it's bugging me
Post some before and after pictures of your van - I do like to see the transformations - especially with the bling

Mark has told me they are hoping to have metal vent levers available to purchase in the early new year. Good news.

Anyone retro fitted levers to their dashboard?
There is no hardware behind mine to put a lever/cable onto.

I have fitted a diverter to the air output of my Webasto. I plumbed it into the plastic part that feeds the drivers windscreen and side vent. It works great! So I now have a windscreen demister whilst the wife has heat on her feet (the diverter adjusts air amount between us as I often drive alone).

(Please note I did not feed it into the van air ducts grill flaps etc. Nor should you as this may cause back pressure on the Webasto if the flaps are opened).

I have ordered parts to split the air from the diverter to both sides equally and divert it up or down (or both). I would just like to connect it to a lever if possible.

Hi Ronnie, I did this a few years back now.

I first had to cut out the hole in my dash top to fit the vents I got from vwheritage I think.

I bought the plastic air pipes used off ebay from a classic bay.

I then bought a T piece, a Y with flap and some ducting pipe so that I could divert the heat to the screen or to the two outlets for driver and passenger and anywhere in between.

I then sourced a right hand drive dash binnacle so the slots for the heater controls were on the left side and some heater controls all off ebay.

The controls bolted in to a hole already there for the bottom and the top uses a bolt that holds the dash rail on.

I got the blue and red levers from just kampers I think.

I do still have to connect up the flap to the red control lever on the dash but I have been thinking about how I'm going to do that but I think it will involve some bike gear cable Rolling Eyes

I also re-installed the fresh air flaps at the front and control them from the blue lever on the dashboard.

I sourced the brackets and cross shaft and rods from ebay, they bolted straight on to the captive nuts already there.
Heater levers on dashboard 2012-05-19%2020.58.13_zpssgciadxc

The rods however that go through the bulkhead to the flaps where not the correct length so both flaps would not close at the same time. I also bought new rubber seals for the bulkhead holes.

So I decided to make my own turnbuckles with these rod ends in order to adjust each one to the correct length and to connect them to the controls on the dashboard.

This is the one connecting onto the controls

And these are the ones that go through to the flaps

It works really great allowing control of fresh air and heat, will be better once I get the hot one connected to the lever on the dashboard as I just lean under and move it by hand just now Wink

Cheers for that. Looks great. I didn't know you could get those vents.

I have already got the vents in the corner of the dashboard for demisting side windows and screen, but they were connected to the vans ducting to the front flaps.
My vent flaps are screwed down so I just use the quarter light windows for fresh cool air.
I'll take some photos later and post here too.

I'll look out for the lever Binnacle on ebay then. It's the bowden cable connection to it I was also interested in. Your diverter looks like it has cable clamp points for the outer sheath. Mine doesn't. I might by one that does later.
Cheers.

Skytiger - it looks like you enjoyed putting those vents in, you should set up a business and do it for the rest of us!

I never cease to be amazed by the ingenuity of Skytiger and many others on this board. It occurred to me that maybe we could arrange a "training" weekend some time, where we could run "workshop" sessions to share some of our knowledge, everything from waxoyling to curtain making to gin and vodka recipes.

skytiger's work on the vents is flipping amazing. I rigged up something for the front flaps a whole back which sort of worked but was clumsy and now abandoned but the mods shown above are truly top drawer work
