| Can anyone advise whether these are good value compared with other suppliers?
Is the fitting really just a matter of pushing it into the jacking points?
Does a step make the jacking points inoperable? ________________________________________________________________________________ "You can check out any time you like but you can never leave"

Is the fitting really just a matter of pushing it into the jacking points? Just about, they might be a nut or two to tighten to ensure that it doesn't fall out as you are cruising down the motorway. - Quote :

Well, you could either take the step off to use the jacking point, or use a different type of jack, or the method I prefer is if you have a flat tyre on the right hand side, then swap the tyre to the left hand side then you can use those jacking points as normal.

But to swap to tyre wouldn't you still need to jack up the right hand side to get the tyre off in the first place to be able to swap it over?? ________________________________________________________________________________ Ginger man without a ginger van

| Just turn the van round, then the flat will be on the other side... ________________________________________________________________________________ www.alpinegrovetouringpark.com Twitter: @AlpineGrove Facebook: facebook.com/alpinegrovetouringpark

| Did you turn it round?
It also depends which side of the van you get in/out of.... ________________________________________________________________________________ www.alpinegrovetouringpark.com Twitter: @AlpineGrove Facebook: facebook.com/alpinegrovetouringpark

| I find rolling the van forward a few inches results in the flat bit being at the top, sorted! | |

Just means you need to climb over the cabinets to get in - bit pointless if you ask me.. ________________________________________________________________________________ www.alpinegrovetouringpark.com Twitter: @AlpineGrove Facebook: facebook.com/alpinegrovetouringpark

| Having a side step does look cool . . . and we like it . . . but in our opinion it should not be seen as a practical item Ours has never been used getting in to the Kombi The jacking points are also not operable with the side step A bottle jack is one option to consider - or undo the bolts and remove the step (we carry a suitable socket for such occasions) There is of course calling the AA or RAC if you get a flat Best not to get one or make sure it is on the opposite side to the sliding door Rooby Roo ________________________________________________________________________________ Proud winners of Spike's Trophy 2017 Scooby - Born To Run | |

| Can I just add a bit of sensibility to all this frivolity. If anyone is thinking about buying a side step - make sure you get the right length. We had to have a new jacking point welded to the van as the side step we got (which I have to say was a bargain - even with buying a new jacking point and getting it welded on) was shorter than the distance between the two normal jacking points. | |

| I bought one of these this week. £149. Arrived this morning. Fitted in about 15 mins (still in my slippers). The nyloc nuts on the step should be fine and despite the shearing photo ( thread) I hate bolts that can fall out downwards (damn gravity, I blame Newton), so I used threadlock on my mounting bolts. My wife has arthritis so finds the step a real aid. ________________________________________________________________________________ I am an Engineer. I will fix this!
