| Hi everyone. I thought I'd introduce myself, Pete, Sue my wife and Hadley the dog and our VW Brazilian bay and thank the Forum for its advice. In getting the van ready Ive been making extensive use of the technical advice, the latest being how to set the valve clearances. It's all my wife's fault that we've bought the van as she instigated it all after passing a comment that wouldn't it be a great idea. We bought the van in February this year and I've been working on it getting it ready for the summer. Hadley is besotted with the van. If I am working on it he will come and sit with me, keeping an eye out for prowling cats! While it is generally in good shape it hadn't been used over the last two years, so really needed some mechanical attention. I spend one weekend dismantling the front brakes, to find that the pads were crumbling to pieces. I've also installed the Dynamat sound deadening sheets which have made a real improvement. After a few outings I decided the steering was too unwieldy, especially at low speed and decided to get the Lite Steer conversion fitted, so its been with VW Camper Vans for a while. This weekend we're off to our friends place in Eardisley to load up the van on a trial run, awning, camping stuff etc before we set off to France for two weeks on the 12th June. Hopefully the petrol situation will be resolved by then, otherwise we might need to sort out a last minute Plan B! All the very best and thanks again Pete 2006 Danbury Rio LV06BUG | |

| Hi. As you have found, this is a really helpful site. Let us all know where you go in France, and how long it takes - we are driving to Bordeaux in August (and allowing 2 days ) | |

| Welcome PeteH - where are you off to in France? - we sail on 19th June, headed to the Western Med.
Do try and get along to an event and meet the gang - we're a friendly bunch.

| Thanks to everyone for such a warm welcome to the forum. We're going to Quimper (pronounced camper I think) and we'll explore at a leisurely pace what Brittany has to offer. We've signed up to France Passion so there may be a few overnight impromptu stops as well. Sue is currently finishing off replacements for the curtains on the van. She's designed roll-up blinds velcro'd to the curtain rail and held to the metal around the window with magnets. Our next planned outing will be to the Eastnor Castle event at the end of July, so I look forward to meeting up with folks at that event. ________________________________________________________________________________ Pete and Sue.
