PostSubject: How to tow a Danbury without a tow loop.   How to tow a Danbury without a tow loop. EmptySat Jun 25, 2016 6:15 pm

Hello,

Am at the mud bath that is Glastonbury. Looks like will need towed out of field unfortunately.  I know it may damage steering/axle, but don't think will have a choice.

Does anyone have any advice on where is best to attach the tow straps in an attempt to minimise damage?

Cheers

Gordon

From a previous thread it seems that there may be a tow point on the rear off-side bumper strut. Alternatively use the tow-bar if you have one. If that fails you could always recruit a few crusties to give you a push! Smile

I managed out without a tow - borrowed some recovery track which worked well - might get some of it!

Van now in danbury to get a £150 tow hook installed (and the fancy direct drive steering system too!).

We bought our towing hook for £10 on eBay and had it welded onto the chassis at the front by Litesteer when they fitted our power steering and towbar.

We did a similar thing and had it welded when Scooby was in for a service for a few extra pounds.

I didn't know that was possible - after my muddy weekend, I think people should consider getting one. Be prepared and all that!

There's some information somewhere on the forum showing where they are welded. I can't find it now??. A few owners had it done after someones front axle broke after being towed by the breakdown services.

Thanks Tallulah, and for my next request - can someone correct the spelling in the subject heading - its causing me great embarrassment! Maybe I can blame autocorrect - I do know how to spell TOW - honest!

Here's a link to the original tow loop that Tim recommended:-

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UNIVERSAL-STEEL-WELD-ON-TOW-EYE-TOWING-HOOK-POWDER-COATED-RED-Z1027-/330543638623?hash=item4cf5efa85f:m:mkTl8kEG3NdC6X3g5UrICIQ

I think I'll look to get this done next time Bumble's in for a service.

Paul Brand fitted this when we took Bumble in for her latest service. He's done a great job welding it on and then waxoyling it in - looks like it's been there since new (and probably should have been!)

Thanks Paul. cheers
