| Time to sort a Winter run out in our BraziBays. Tango and I flew past this iconic site a couple of times recently and I thought it would make a great location to flex the suspension and visit with the campers. The A303 is of course the legendary route to the South West and probably had more VW Campers travel its tarmac than any other type of vehicle over the years. So let's further that tradition by blowing out the Winter blues and splashing some Brazilian Kombi Kolour to Stonehenge. I suggest getting to Stonehenge for about 11-1130 on the day - coffee and cakes in the Kombis - a wander around the stones if you wish* and then convoy on to a relatively nearby pub for some lunchtime tucker. We can have some meet-up points from all directions so this can be a proper Kombi-Konvergence. Who's in - reply below?! Attending: TimV Beakyboy Tallulah Scooby harryhornet Bumble PeteH greenjc90 Georgy Happyhouse SL03BUS dizzylizard Firebird London/South/SE - meeting points for those heading from that direction: 0850 Hog's Back Cafe car park 0920 M3 Southbound Fleet Services 1000 A303 Westbound Starbucks Barton Stacey Lunch afterwards at 12:15 will be at the Wheatsheaf country pub http://www.wheatsheaflowerwoodford.co.uk Many thanks to @harryhornet for researching that one - it's a dog-friendly pub. I've reserved an area that will give us seating for a max of 30. The pub are working on a couple of set menus for us for the day. Details to follow. Please indicate if you are eating lunch at the pub with us? In case you need reminding, here's Stonehenge the last time this cheeky little fellow visited there in Max back in 2010. He's grown a bit now. *Stonehenge is now managed by English Heritage and there is a fee to visit the stones. I will attempt to get a reduced group booking for us. English Heritage and National Trust members are also recommended to book in advance for their FREE visit. Lunch @ The Wheatsheaf 1. TimV 2. Tallulah 3. Tallulah 4. Tallulah 5. Tallulah 6. PeteH 7. | We’d love to join you. We’d bring Barney so a dog friendly pub would suit us best. I’m happy to research some options. | |

English Heritage and National Trust members are also recommended to book in advance for their FREE visit. Ooh, how do NT members get a free visit?! http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/stonehenge/prices-and-opening-times Alternatively, "The right of way passes within a few feet of the Heal Stone and gives free access to the public. The path allows the public to use the old A344 road and the new path from Airman’s Corner roundabout to the A303 free of charge and without any passes". https://blog.stonehenge-stone-circle.co.uk/2017/10/09/the-new-permissive-path-at-stonehenge-is-finally-open/ P.

I'd suggest the 11.00-11.30 slot. That would give us all time to arrive and make a coffee before having a wander around. ________________________________________________________________________________ Max SportsKombi - The Bay Racer @brazilianvwbay

| 30 lunch places now provisionally reserved.
I'm sure this won't stop others from sitting elsewhere in the pub, but it may not be where our main group is located.
Please continue to reply below if you're eating as I may be able to reserve other tables within the pub. ________________________________________________________________________________ Max SportsKombi - The Bay Racer @brazilianvwbay

| Just spoke with the Stonehenge booking wizards. As stated above, NT members get in for free - but you must book your time slot (11 - 11.30.) If you're not a member of the NT and you want to go into the visitor centre then if we book for 11 or more people then the costs would be £15.75 (£14.22 for over 60s/Students) and £9.45 for kids. Because it's Winter - all will be allowed to park in the Visitor Centre car park - during the Spring/Summer months - access to the car park is only allowed with a ticket for the Visitor Centre. So if you want to touch the Stones - and you aren't a member of the NT - please reply below so I can see if there's 11 or more of us to get the reduced prices. Ta I bet the Druids never needed this much organisation when they were building the 'henge!! Mind you they may have had a flatpack instruction booklet. ________________________________________________________________________________ Max SportsKombi - The Bay Racer @brazilianvwbay | |
