| Just trying out my new Kampa Pod awning with a figure of 8 attachemnt to the bay.
Got a slight promblem that the figure of 8 is loose on the bay guttering and keeps on falling down. Has anyone faced this problem, and how did you fix it?
Looking at pics online, our guttering is alot straighter.
Thanks | |

| Jamie, You need some gutter bulk strip from Fishbrain, I use it. works great but only need a few short bits.

| I'd go for the clamps as when it really blows, it still may detatch. Fishbrain also supply this system. | |

| I think I want an awning that is big enough to drive Max into instead, so I don't have to worry about whether the side is going to get blown off in the middle of the night! | I'm done with the figure-of-8 + anything more than a slight breeze fiasco. It's a great idea but even with the bulk strip my experience of late is that it's just not up to the job. At least with a pole and clamp you know everything's going to be held together, even if it means both awning and camper get picked up by a tornado!
The other bonus of the pole is that its weight helps keep it in place during the attaching process. ________________________________________________________________________________ Max SportsKombi - The Bay Racer @brazilianvwbay

| I've never looked back after getting rid of the figure 8. Pole and clamp all the way ________________________________________________________________________________ Ginger man without a ginger van | |

Never used the figure of 8 - P&C method our only experience - seems we got it right first time! ________________________________________________________________________________ Proud winners of Spike's Trophy 2017 Scooby - Born To Run

| Having bought a JK sun canopy a couple of years back (mainly because it was a sale item and cheap) I discovered that it only has a pole and clamp system, and not the beading for a figure of 8. which meant that I could only put it up with the roof up, and without the roof rack on. Anticipating some fine weather, and not wishing to fork out again, I tried a different approach as above. I bought some piping and heavy duty canvas and made up support loops as in photo 1. The pole can now be attached via the figure of 8 to the gutter with the roof down and the roof rack on, which is handy if we are only parking up for a couple of hours. I haven't tried it yet with the canopy in position, but it should clear the sliding door when it is all tensioned up. (The red tape on the pole is where the attachment loops on the canopy go) If anyone has a canopy or awning with no pole and clamp system, just the beading, and they want to go down the pole route, it should work in reverse, you would just need to get the pole and clamps. | |
