Hey Guys
If you are still reading this we can now reveal the next leg of the tour
A week before our trip we had only firmed up the Welsh element.
We were considering North Wales, Snowdonia and "The Prisoner Country".
However, we had completed a similar trip about four years ago in a tent
We had also completed a mini-tour of Devon & Cornwall at Easter - so where to go?
The weather was not forecast to be great in these areas so we thought we might go some where different.
Let's follow the sun - not easy in the UK with a Bank Holiday on the horizon!
We checked some forecasts and looked to the forum for inspiration for some where to go.
Combining the two we came up with Sandringham - having read Peppa's glowing recommendation.
So we booked the site from Tuesday to Friday - we wanted to book to Monday but the site was full on Saturday
Here we are on pitch 62 with our awning and wind break.
The wind break was not really necessary as the site was protected by the surrounding trees - little if any wind
Put up the awning, fully pegged, within forty minutes
Whilst we had rain on the way up, there was sunshine on the site
Having looked around the site and the facilities etc. we can only agree with Peppa's comments about the site.
We found the staff were friendly and helpful, the site being well laid out and the facilities clean and to a good standard.
Having not been to this part of the UK before we planned some driving in Scooby as well some bike rides and walks.
Taking the coast road from our site, we went around as far as Great Yarmouth, stopping off along the way as necessary.
The pic below is of the first windmill we encountered on this drive - with a DUB for scale.
We expect Peppa could tell you where the windmill is as we have long since forgotten.
Here is a pic we like at Wells Next The Sea - a "To" seems to be missing - repeated at a number of locations?
Anyone care to explain?
Walked along the promonade, on the pier, in and out of the shops at Chromer (not sure about these spellings) and had a very large (but cheap) icecream whilst doing so
Here is a view from the pier.
When we were at Great Yarmouth we were amazed at the amount of amusements and "seaside tack" that could congregated in to one location along with a view of off shore windfarms in the distance. We did like the large sandy beach around the pier, with it's donkey rides for the children, here's the pier.
When out and about in Scooby we encountered an old AA Box - could not miss such a photo op and so we took "a few" - the one below is as we were leaving. (It's at Brancaster for those of you who are interested)
The first of many walks was in to Sandringham - the house being only a 25 minute walk away from the campsite.
We spent a pleasant afternoon in the house and grounds - couple of pics below.
Early one evening during our stay (it may have been Thursday) a smiling face peered around our wind break as we were reading - it was Peppa, his wife and their two children! A drink and a chat followed - we had not contacted them to say we were on their patch and so it was a complete surprise - any way if the site was not any good we would demand our money back from Peppa
Needless to say this route would not be necessary as the site was FAB
On the booking front we managed to secure a cancellation spot so we could stay at Sandringham on pitch 62 the extra nights from Friday to Monday night - ie. over the Bank Holiday Weekend - which saved us much deliberation as most places were full on the Saturday!
The first cycle ride was a 12 mile round trip to King's Lyn, it has some historical points of interest, and it made a good destination for lunch!
The next cycle ride was much shorter, just down the road to Castle Rising for a medieval day in the shadow of the castle - spent around three hours here before cycling off in the opposite direction to Wolferton in the afternoon for the Scarecrow festival in the village. It is a charity fundraising event held every two years - last year they raised over £20k - not bad for a small village of less than 200 people!
Just a couple of pics of the many that were taken.
As our time at this site came ever closer we looked back at the trips and the site and agreed we had missed much of the rain forecast/seen elsewhere around the country.
So on the last day we needed to decide where would we head to next and try and book something!
Should we head across to the Peak District as provisionally planned or head South?
We must follow the sun
So went to the site office and asked to look at the Caravan & Camping Club book to get some ideas (we were members).
They were most helpful and even booked the chosen site for us there and then.
Now our next destination was booked we could enjoy a lazy last half day on the site.
As the pic above shows we managed to secure some more sunshine!
In the morning it would be out on the open road again ....
