We're going to see Neil at Litesteer on Friday to have power steering fitted. We're driving down on Thursday and stopping over in Burwash before dropping Absinthe off on Friday morning.
This is a part of the world which I really don't know but I'm sure you southern based owners can help with two questions:
1) Any thoughts on what we can occupy a day with in the area on Friday using only public transport?
2) We'll be picking her up on Friday evening and starting to drive back north but we'd like to stop over somewhere on Friday night before finishing the journey on Saturday. For reasons too complicated to mention, we intend to book into a pub/hotel rather than sleep in the van so does anyone have any suggestions for a recommended country pub with rooms somewhere along this route and within a reasonable driving distance from Sussex?

you should be able to fill a day in Royal Tunbridge Wells.

Agree with Matt, Tunbridge Wells is nice. Scotney castle, and a vineyard in Lamberhurst not far away. My favourite is Hever castle but it's too far for public transport but lovely if you fancy a detour.

Hi Martin Sorry been some time since I was there, but it's a nice town with good mix of shops and antique shops, should be plenty to mooch around.

Long time since i lived there, and the shopping centre has been re-developed since. There is a large modern shopping area which will hold all the usuall shops that is left out of the train station and up the hill. For more interesting shops and antiques you want to go right out of the train station to The Pantiles area which is what Tunbridge wells is known for. Not sure where the bus station is now, but you will be able to get a regular bus service from Heathfield. Cant remember if the train line goes through there, I know it goes passed the north end of Wadhurst which is a bit far from where your marker on the map is.

My brain has only just started to work Absinthe, Burwash has a train station that will go to tunbridge wells, also the pub, the nodding donkey used to be very good for food but that was a long time ago. Keep your eyes open for Roger Doltry, thats his local and he was often in there.
