If you want to test your clutch, engine and nerves, (25% Slopes and Hairpins Everywhere) head down to Sunny Lyn Campsite http://www.caravandevon.co.uk/ lovely small site within walking distance of Lynton. Great area good site and Pub next door.

Scooby took a wrong turn last year whilst wandering on a trip to Devon & Cornwall
Ended up on similar steep hills and hair pin bends around Lynton & Lynmouth - never again affraid
So we will not be attending the camp site any time soon!

Spent many a happy holiday in Parracombe, apart from the one, at the start of the holiday fully loaded going uphill on the really sharp hairpin, and broke the rear spring hanger on my Cortina estate.

Being a devout coward, now take the flatter route via Exford to avoid going uphill at Porlock and Barbrook.

Was at Croyde round the corner in 1952 as a child, and still remember dead sheep floating in the water after the Lynmouth disaster.

Having said that, a lovely area to visit as you say Poddy.

When moving on from Minehead to the campsite at Damage Barton, as recommended on here, we were advised by ex-member 'Tilly' to avoid the coastal route that goes up Porlock Hill.
So we just had to go that way.
A bit of a damp squib for us. We didn't cause any noticeable traffic hold up as we had to follow a double-decker bus from bottom to top. We were worrying about the hill-start but he didn't stop to pick up any passengers.

A lovely drive with a chance of a thrill
