Little did we know back in 2011 how popular our club's annual get-together was going to be. We started that year with a dozen BraziBays – last year we were a Kombi-shy of 40. So I wonder if we can top that number this year? I guess there's only one way to find out!
Once again we're taking over the large camping field on the north-eastern side of Anita's Touring Park. As many of you know, the site is very accessible from the M40, is secluded in that the field has hedgerows and trees bordering it, so no one would know we were there (except when we start the music!) and the facilities are top notch – decent showers and toilets and the convenience of the mini-shop found at reception. We have a great relationship with the owners and whilst making us extremely welcome, they also tend to just let us get on with our gig.
The KOMBI Sleepover starts on Friday 30th May and concludes around lunchtime on Sunday 1st June. People start arriving from as early as the Friday morning and some turn up really late on the Saturday night! Whatever you decide to do, you're most welcome and I and the admin team, along with all the regular attendees hope you can join us. It's an incredibly friendly, light-hearted and diverse get-together, of mixed age groups, race, sexuality and family set-ups.
This year the Friday is going to be a little more relaxed than in the past. Many travel some distance to join us and we realise that folks just want to pitch up, eat and chillout with friends. As an aid to easing you into the weekend, the Lilyvdub crew are turning their BraziBay into a Kombi Kurry Kitchen on the Friday night. For just £3.50 per person they will serve up a delicious meat or vegetarian curry, so you won't have to worry about cooking that night, unless of course you want to. The KOMBICABANA will be available for people to convene in either to eat or just to chat. There will be background music this year, not a disco. Sorry Scooby.
Saturday is going to be a lot of fun this year. We're building on the success of the village fete concept and expanding it to be a KOMBI KARNIVAL! Some of the stands from last year will be back – Lilyvdub's Tea and Cake, the VW Kampers Mega-Slide plus Kiteman's BraziBuzzer game sponsored by Just Kampers. A number of our supporting advertisers will also be in attendance so you can get to meet them and discuss what they can help you out with on your Kombi.
We'd like to encourage you to 'dress up' your BraziBay in a way that encapsulates the KOMBI KARNIVAL theme – there will be a prize for the T2 that looks most like it wants to party!
What we're looking for now is ideas and offers of what type of stands/stalls you'd like to see at our KOMBI KARNIVAL. We're talking chilli cook-offs, cocktail stands, a limbo competition, fancy dress, ornaments, party gear ... just think Rio, colour, loud, stunning and crazy.
Saturday afternoon will be Sports Day again putting the Aircooled Bunch versus the AquaBay Krew to include: an egg and spoon race, a sack race, a tug of war and of course, finishing off with a game of rounders!
Towards the end of the afternoon we'll convene at the KOMBICABANA for this year's auction hosted by that old dog Scooby (and his lovely assistant.) Proceeds going to our chosen charity of Cancer Research as usual – bring along anything you wish to put into the auction – it just needs to have a link to VW campervans in some way. Last year we raised £1165 – maybe we could match or even beat that this year?!
Throughout the day we'll be asking you to survey all the BraziBays present and vote for the one that stands out as the 2014 Star KOMBI. Every BraziBay attending is automatically entered. Skytiger currently holds the title, who's going to take the trophy home this year?
After a break for some dinner back at your BraziBay, we'll fire up the music and dance the night away in the KOMBICABANA - the theme for this year's Saturday night party is Mardi-Gras – interpret that in whatever way you choose.
The theme for the Sunday morning photograph at The KOMBI Sleepover this year is 'First To Last. ' We want to line up as many New T2 Kombis in order of age as is possible in the show field.
So we're talking 1997 -> 2014.
We need every year represented in as many colours as possible to make this THE biggest gathering of BraziBays yet. Your mission is to get every BraziBay you know/see to come along.
I've asked Danbury to bring along one of the Last Edition Kombis if possible, so we can complete the range. We need every type of BraziBay that has come into Europe since '97: minibus, panel van, early type Danbury poptop, tintops, those converted by VW Downunder, VW Kampers, O'Connors roofs, every variant!
Once we've snapped that it'll be time to pack up and say goodbye. I'll have the video camera located at the exit so please make sure you give it a wave as you drive by.
Costs for this year's show:
Grass pitches are £17 per Kombi per night.
There are just 5 Electric Hook-Up pitches available for the Friday and Saturday nights now that we know the requirements for the show. These are priced at £18 per Kombi per night. However, because there is so much competition for these, we have decided that our club charity should benefit from the demand. Rather than do a lottery we are going to auction these EHU pitches in the form of private message bids to Scooby by 1st May. If you want an EHU pitch, please pm Scooby – just once – with your highest bid for 2 night's EHU. The 5 highest bids received by May 1st will each be allocated an EHU pitch at the show and the profit between the £18 per night cost and the bid will be donated to our club charity of Cancer Research. You must have the EHU for both nights.
The bids will be kept secret until the Saturday afternoon when we will reveal how much your generous contribution has added to the auction total.
To book grass pitches at this year's KOMBI Sleepover, you may either send me a cheque or pay by bank transfer. PM me for the details please.
If you're bidding for an EHU, and attending regardless of whether your bid succeeds, you may now book a grass pitch at the Sleepover and simply pay the extra for the EHU should you get one after May 1st.
Can I thank you in advance if you plan to come, I promise you a great weekend and the admin team and I look forward to your company.

An automatic timer starts the moment you lift the handle and we'll be noting the durations throughout the day to see who completes the circuit in the quickest time. We really want you to dress your BraziBay up in Karnival style for the event. Throughout all of Saturday I'll be checking out every Kombi in attendance. We sadly lost one of our members, Spike, recently so we're celebrating his exuberance and zest by naming the trophy for the BraziBay that captures best the spirit of the occasion as Spike's Trophy in memory of him.
In your welcome pack you'll find a Star Kombi voting form. This is where you get your chance to decide which BraziBay deserves to take the title for 2014. The last 2 winners have been MarcusH and Skytiger. Has anyone done enough to take the title and the glass trophy from Skytiger? It's down to you to decide. Post your voting form in the box by the Kombicabana by 1900 please.
