| I've admired the wood effect flooring that many of you have in your BraziBays and now we're in 'summer' and the living zone of my Kombi is going to get busy I wondered what I could achieve on a tight budget. I'd recently fitted a new laminate floor at home and tried one of the left over planks inside my van. Amazingly the length of the plank at 1.285m was perfect for fitting between the seat base and the end of the kitchen units. Under the temporary carpet that I'd made (2 years back) Max still sports the original factory rubber matting. I was going to lay the new floor over this with a foam membrane inbetween to prevent damp. I already had some of this foam left over from the home job. So here's my shopping list for this job: B&Q Beech Effect 10 plank pack £12.50 Laminate glue/sealant £3 2 x black tile trim strips to act as edging £10 A tube of clear silicone seal to sort the cupboard and seat base edges £4 I only had to cut the first plank where it meets the edge of the cupboards and the last to fit it to the sliding door edge. Here are the pix: I laid all the planks in to check the fit first and then used the laminate glue on the click strips as they each went in permanently. I used impact adhesive (which I already had) to glue the black trim on the edges. The floor has already proved a success over the Camperjam weekend and will be great for the forthcoming trip to France. If it gets wrecked before Christmas, I know I can renew it anytime for not much dosh. ________________________________________________________________________________ Max SportsKombi - The Bay Racer @brazilianvwbay | |

| Lovely looking job, a big improvement.
(May be a silly question, but what happened to the table-leg socket) ________________________________________________________________________________ Growing old is mandatory Growing up is optional

(May be a silly question, but what happened to the table-leg socket) Ta - I don't use it as I have a free standing Fiamma tripod now - much more flexible. The socket is still under there beneath the foam. ________________________________________________________________________________ Max SportsKombi - The Bay Racer @brazilianvwbay

| Roger, the socket can be a bit of a pain sometimes (literally) if you forget to put the plug back in, stubbed my toe a couple of times in the past. | |

- but I had to buy a shorter one for use outside, (Pat's a bit vertically challenged and using the supplied leg meant the table top was about eye-level).
I might need a taller one... ________________________________________________________________________________ Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder

| It's 3 years since I put my budget floor in and although it still does the job, some of the edges had split - probably by any of the heavy stuff I regularly transport about in my BraziBay. So ahead of this year's Kombi Kaper, I decided to renew it today, and as luck would have it, the same beech effect pack I bought 3 years ago was still available in my local B&Q and reduced to £9!!! So I picked up another pack, stripped out the old flooring, used the 2 outer planks as templates for the new ones and did it all over!! Even re-using the black edging from the previous floor. Just need to get some silicone to do the seat and furniture edges and we'll be good for another 3 years!! ________________________________________________________________________________ Max SportsKombi - The Bay Racer @brazilianvwbay | |
