We are thinking of a visit to Weymouth. We would prefer a campsite with electric hookup, good showers and within easy walking distance (a mile or so) of the town / beach.
Would welcome any advice from members here.

Sorry OSG Scooby has not camped in Weymouth, but have stayed at the following site in Swanage a few times, if you would consider an alternative location!

Ulwell Cottage Campsite

Hope this may be of use

Eastfleet is good (Great camping shop!) - but still a good 30 mins walk into town. There aren't any sites in the town itself - I just park up in the long stay and put the roof up! LOL - it's what we did at Lyme Regis and will be doing at Swanage.
If you do need to drive into town then I agree that there are many excellent sites just outside of the town. There is a very good park and ride service serving the town - but it closes at 6pm which is a bit of a downer.
How about going to the Swanage area instead? - The Folk Festival is on there this coming weekend which is a real laugh and very entertaining.

I've been to Westfleet a few times - particularly as they have a superb modern shower building, good shop and an on-site pub that does bar food!

You should find good bus links from east or west fleet campsites into town. Unfortunately there are no good campsites that close to weymouth town center. If you are a member of one of the camping clubs you will find a couple of cl's around the outskirts, otherwise both clubs have sites at morton next to the train station. The caravan club site is the better of the 2 .

Thanks Scooby, Dennis, Batman, Tim and Matt. Good information for when we make the trip. Looks like East Fleet Farm and a 30min walk would suit us best.
Just now we had a change of plan and stayed at Hurn Lane Caravan Club site in Berrow. The site was good but not much in the area so we used the bus to visit Burnham on Sea on one day (walked back along the beach) and then Weston Super Mare the next.
