| Help please guys.
One of my insurance broking friends has a client who hires out Classic T2s (their words not mine!)
They need to fix some insurance cover for them - can you point me towards which insurers/brokers you use for Self-drive hire cover please?

| A1 motorhome
Tel 01733 233552
We have set up with them but have never let anybody use the van yet
Think it's about £28.00 per day but cheaper if they hire for longer periods

| Thanks guys - anyone else? - I'm loathe to recommend Alan Boswell (no matter how good they are) as they're our bitter competitors in the Motor Factor Sector! LOL! ________________________________________________________________________________ Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder

| Just rang Insurecarhire as their complete package seemed the best for a new start up, as the insurance is per hire day rather than annual fixed premium. Horrified to find that their fixed set up fee has almost doubled to £1000 and daily hire rate doubled to £32 a day since I first discussed in August. Does anybody know of an alternative provider offering similar set up thanks Howard | |

| Take a look at camperbug.co.uk
As well as an online directory for campers to hire, they also offer daily rate insurance for hires whether arranged through them or elsewhere.
I believe they are also one of our site advertisers. ________________________________________________________________________________ www.alpinegrovetouringpark.com Twitter: @AlpineGrove Facebook: facebook.com/alpinegrovetouringpark

| still working on getting ready for hiring this year. Latest challenge is the lack of clarity from insurance companies. We currently have private use insurance with Comfort but seek "for hire" insurance to kick in when we start to hire, hopefully in March 2016 Comfort tell me that you cannot have two policies on the insurance database at the same time yet insurecarhire, the probable providers of the business insurance, tell me they offer insurance that only kicks in on hire and sits comfortably alongside private policy. Currently talking to camperbug about what they can offer. Surely it cannot be this difficult, any advice gratefully received best Howard | |

| Generally speaking, call centre staff only operate by the rules they are given. IE, "a vehicle can only have one insurance policy at a time".
In practice, this is not entirely correct but trying to speak to them about it gets them in a flap and they tend to back away assuming you are attempting some kind of insurance fraud.
The terms of the policy with Comfort state that the vehicle is "not insured if be driven by anyone not covered by the policy, being driven in relation to the motor trade or hire or reward", or something like that in any case. So in my opinion that makes things quite simple. While your vehicle IS on hire, it is NOT covered by the Comfort policy, but by the self-drive hire policy you took out with the hirers details.
The exact same applies when your vehicle (camper or otherwise) goes for a service or repair, while being driven or looked after by the mechanic/garage, it is covered under their motor vehicle policy and not yours even though at no point does anyone call up their insurance company to tell them "it's going for a service".
You just need to ensure you keep very good records of the precise times when it is on hire etc in order to avoid any doubt as to the insurance cover at the time of any incident.
PS: I'm pretty sure you will find CamperBug to be more reasonably priced than insurecarhire although it is a while since I have done the comparison myself.

| Alison has a new project space and is looking at trying to set up a scheme for Campervan Hirers. If you hire your van out at the moment I'd appreciate some info from you:
Who do you use for insurance at the moment?
What's good about the cover/service/delivery?
What could be improved?
Can you pay by instalments?
What extra would be in your wish list?
Who would you recommend to a friend or are all the suppliers much of a muchness?
If you don't want to reply via this post feel free to PM me or have a chat at the Sleepover or Northern Meet.

| OK Have just spent a tortuous morning trying to sort insurance on Colin. Most insurance companies back away when you mention hiring but here are my findings
Camperbug offer daily and periodic insurance whether hired through them or not. Short hire is expensive @ £20-30 a day, but this drops to £18 a day for a 3 day hire and they also offer period insurance [3 months = c.£300] which works over the summer if you have a few hires
As for the mainstream insurance, I was using whittlesey, who entertain the dual insurance model, but this was expensive this year so just switched to Lancaster, underwritten by LV/Highway. Need to check the docs but they seemed to understand and entertain that I would behiring and seperately insured whilst doing so Howard

If you intend to have upwards of 50 (or so) days on hire then it might be worth looking at a complete on hire/personal use policy such as from Alan Boswell. It's not cheap (c. £1800pa) but covers you for both and should work out cheaper than a personal policy plus all the ad-hoc hire insurance costs if hiring for a total of 50 ish days. ________________________________________________________________________________ www.alpinegrovetouringpark.com Twitter: @AlpineGrove Facebook: facebook.com/alpinegrovetouringpark

Howard Hi Howard. Cant add anything to the hire insurance but noticed your profile location is Nottingham. I think you passed me on the a435 in Clifton a few days ago on way home from work. Black and white very nice looking kombi. Did not wave as was in the daily driver returning home to loughborough. Nice to see another Brazilian in the east Midlands. | Hi Guys, what is the latest companies you are using for your self-drive hire insurance policies? Alan Boswell have sent a quote for this year and it has gone up by £700 to £2100! Not even sure if this season is going to go well atall soo don't want to spend this much, any thoughts?
Thanks

| For this year at least I would probably look at an daily rate hire provider like Camperbug. You won’t be needing an annual policy given the circumstances. Camperbug used to provide 3 and 6 month policies which might be useful. ________________________________________________________________________________ www.alpinegrovetouringpark.com Twitter: @AlpineGrove Facebook: facebook.com/alpinegrovetouringpark
