Slightly off topic - but wife and I are looking at a trip to New Zealand and wonder if anyone on here has experience of hiring a camper van in the south island of NZ?

I didn't but the "Wicked campers" are everywhere over there. I stayed in hostels (pricier than europe for quality of accommodation, and wished I'd rented camper - they were always parked in lovely spots).
