Subject: Fallbarrow and boat-trips on Windermere Fri Jul 11, 2014 3:55 pm
Just back from 4 nights camping at Bowness on Lake Windermere. We camped up (third time now) in the touring section of Fallbarrow Park which is just ten minutes walk into the town and to the busy boat landing quay. http://www.slholidays.co.uk/touing-pitches (ignore the apparent spelling mistake for touring) Lots to do in the town but we enjoy riding the ferry boats on the lake. A particularly good day out is to buy a 'Walkers Ticket'. This starts with a ferry ride to Ambleside, then from there a small motor boat across to Wray Castle -National Trust and mostly empty but open to the public. From there 4 miles flat walk back along the far edge of the lake takes you to Ferry Houses where your ticket also covers a return motor launch to Bowness. http://www.windermere-lakecruises.co.uk/cruises-fares/walkers-ticket osg
