| After my little mishap a few weeks driving off with the hook Up lead still attached I decided to fit a warning buzzer to protect me from my own stupidity. It consists of a 240v Relay and a buzzer. When the hook up lead is attached, the coil on the 240v relay gets energized, closing part of the buzzer circuit. Switching the ignition on then closes the second part of the circuit, making the buzzer sound. The relay is a bit on the big side but that's all I could find in the stores at work. Total cost for the lot £1.90 for the buzzer ________________________________________________________________________________ Ginger man without a ginger van | |

| Nice. Where did you take the ignition feed from? I assume this all lives under the rear seat?
Found this on Amazon, not the cheapest but could probably find similar elsewhere.

| Yep it lives under the rear seat. The 240v feed comes from the mains socket, the 12v ignition comes from under the dash. I was looking for a 12v ignition live in the engine bay but couldn't find one that was easily accessable.
Looks like that relay will do the job as well ________________________________________________________________________________ Ginger man without a ginger van

| Looks good. I'm still to fit a relay to remind me to switch off the lights though | |

| I have an A4 sized laminated sign with big yellow warning triangle. When I hook up I slide it on top of the steering wheel cowling and it hooks neatly under the dash - covering the speedo. So its pretty obvious when you sit in the driving seat ! | |

| Very creative of you kiteman, but I suspect that driving off while still hooked up is something you only do once. ________________________________________________________________________________ Matt. | |

I need a series of these:- 1. Remember the hook-up. 2. Remember the wheel clamp. 3. Remember to make sure the pop-top is down. etc.

| Good scheme Kiteman.
However, so that you don't drive off thinking 'I wonder what that noise is?' - how about some visible alert on your OBD reader display?

That is as OSG says I don't drive of thinking what's that buzzing noise ________________________________________________________________________________ Ginger man without a ginger van

| I wonder if you could arrange an important engine earth to come from the hook up connector in the engine bay via a plug, so you either have the hook up plugged in to the socket or the engine plugged in to it. Then it would be impossible to start the engine when hooked up. Then I suppose the danger would be calling the AA because you'd forgotten to unplug... | |

That is as OSG says I don't drive of thinking what's that buzzing noise Programmable audio rather than a simple buzzer, similar to the "...vehicle reversing..." fitted to dust carts. "You're still plugged in numpty!" - would probably work! Edit: did a quick search, they use something similar in audio greetings cards... Programmable Audio £4.25 on Ebay for a rerecordable push button activated battery powered 'blank'. Strip it out, use the 240v relay to complete the switch circuit and replace batteries with a suitable supply (from the ignition probably stepped down to 5v or less). If the switch is closed (hookup still attached) and the unit has power (ignition is on), it will play/make it's prerecorded noise. | What about a knotted hanky on the dashboard....one knot each for everything you need to remember! This was a trick my 94 year ol mum used to suggest for remembering things.
