| Hi Everyone,
Trying to prep for our first outing. We've got a Jack Russell mix puppy, and I'm on a hunt for the best awning/baffle combination to ensure she doesn't get loose, as her recall is nil. Our older dog doesn't wander far, and will always recall promptly.
When tent camping (how incredibly quaint!) with the older dog, we were happy having a sewn in inner (big fan of the euro hike integral ground sheet) and that was enough to ensure he stayed put at night.
Now this bonkers 6 month old terrier has arrived on the scene, I'm worried she'll get loose and have a whole night's head start chasing whatever whimsy took her fancy.
Would be very grateful to find out which awnings the other dog owners prefer, and any solutions you have. We've considered leashing her to something structural overnight and keeping the sliding door shut, but it would be nice not to worry if I go into the awning overnight to use the loo, or something.
Thanks! Beth

| It's not just the awning, but they have an escape route under the van as well. We use a ground stake that we screw into the ground to stop ours from wandering too far

| To on be honest if your dog is intent on escaping (and it sounds like she likes the challenge) then she'll find a way out. However dog proof you make your awning there will be a gap somewhere. Our dog is relatively well behaved but he still has a ground spike during the day and at night sleeps in the camper with the door closed. | |

| Some owners have a fold away dog cage they use in the awning. ________________________________________________________________________________ www.alpinegrovetouringpark.com Twitter: @AlpineGrove Facebook: facebook.com/alpinegrovetouringpark

| Thanks for all the feedback. We have a pair of ground stakes and long lines from camping for day use. I have considered a crate, but if she wants out she makes an almighty racket, and I would hate to disturb you all at the Halloween bash if we can make it. Never a good way to introduce ourselves! I'll mooch around the rest of the forum looking at awning posts. No idea what sort of attachment system we need - pole and clamp, or the figure of 8, etc. This is all new to me, but I imagine someone has already covered it. Thanks again! | |

| I used a cage for travelling and the awning ( airline approved one so it does all we ever needed ) so he was always safe | |

| There is a wealth of information on the forum Beth but if you can't find it just ask as somebody will help. Most of us use pole and clamp to attach our awnings and sun canopies to our vans but it is personal preference. Just watch when using clamps that you fit them correctly as don't want and nasty scratches on the gutters.. Most people at Halloween will have had a nightcap or three to help them sleep so don't worry too much! ________________________________________________________________________________ Steve, Jo TigerLily and Carra the Child lovin' Golden Cocker | |

| Thanks again, JJ and beakyboy. I saw a thread which mentioned that Danbury might fit a harness bolt. We might go this route if a stake for day and keeping the potty inside at night doesn't go well for us on our first outing. Anyone use the doggie harness clips that buckle into the belts for travel? | |

| I fabricated something from a groundsheet which runs under the sliding door and wraps round to meet the awning. Attaches to van with built in magnets. Keeps our 3 dogs in and have freedom to hop up into the van or wander round the awning Pretty sure I posted something on here if you search my posts
