PostSubject: Registering a kombi   kombi - Registering a kombi EmptyMon Dec 23, 2019 3:39 pm

Can anybody please give me any advice bought a 1986 Brazilian bay recently (unregistered ) I sent all the original documents off to the Dvla next day delivery (myhermes) but they never received them Hermes lost them and don't really care. Phoned Dvla and told them my situation and they've said I need to get proof of vechicle age or I can't register it any advice on getting proof would be gratefully accepted TIA

I'm taking it for granted that you didn't take copies of said documents before dispatching them with Hermes?

Do you know when the vehicle arrived in the UK and who imported it? A Customs declaration will have been submitted and the agent whom submitted it may well have copies of the supporting documentation to verify the age. The agent is however duty bound to only keep 6 years of records so based on your Kombi being 33 years old it is very dependant on when the vehicle actually arrived in the UK.

Might DVLA accept a written declaration from an industry expert on the age of the vehicle, I would expect a reputable VW Specialist could do this for you ?

They are my starters for ten , good luck...

Does the Vehicle Identification Number help by containing the year of manufacture within it.
Or contacting VW with the VIN could give a free birth-certificate.

Ring any Volkswagen dealer and speak to their parts department. Quote the chassis number and they will be able to give you a build date.

I changed my "official" place of residence earlier this year; sending off the registration certificates to the DVLA, to be amended for my two vehicles (1973 VW "1600" Type 2 and 1974 Triumph Toledo 1300) in late-May 2019. After more than 6 weeks I had yet to receive any reply.

When I queried this, the DVLA said there was no record of them having been received and would therefore have to submit two application forms and 2 x £25, which I declined to do as they already had my new address as amended on my driving licence together with my vehicles' details. Even after nearly a month of contesting this, the DVLA still maintained that I would have to submit forms and pay the fees. Strangely, they were still saying this, a day before the issue date, of the amended registration document for my Triumph Toledo.

SEVEN MONTHS after I sent my registration documents (both were in the same envelope), I have still yet to receive an amended registration certificate for the VW Type 2 and there have been no replies to any of my e-mail correspondence since early-September 2019. I get the impression that no one knows what each other are doing at the DVLA, so documents easily get lost, mislaid or buried at the bottom of in-trays.

Got to love DVLA. Very good at taking your money, but not great at being helpful. Crying or Very sad

Did you send them by recorded/signed for post?

As annoying as this situation is, I'd have paid up by now just to ensure the documents were in my possession.

Cant you do an address change on-line nowadays?

So you can transfer a vehicle to a new keeper with a new address online, but you can't change your own address.

Thats just daft.

I didn’t think you could even do that! It’s all about stopping fraudulent behaviour.

You can definitely sell/transfer a vehicle on line nowadays - I've used the DVLA portal to sell a scooter.

I concur, have used the online transfer portal myself.
