Hey - did you import that to New Zealand? Or someone else?

It was imported into NZ in 2009, and sold to the fellow who I bought it off in 2011.

Would love to visit Wales - my fiance was born in Ebbw Vale

I am led to believe that there is only one other water cooled Brazilian Bay in NZ, that's a Final Edition from 2012 which is held at Bill Richardon's Transport World in Invercargill - the owner tells me she can't get hers registered for the road - which means it won't ever leave the museum.

I was going to say, I've spoken with others who wanted to take a Kombi to NZ but have been refused by legislation. What changed between 2009 and 2012?

Safety standards - airbags that kind of thing. Also the one in the museum is a leftie - mine was converted by Danbury in the UK, so I think they'd have to convert from left to right to go some of the way to get it on the road. You'd bugger the value of a very late model Final Edition by converting it.. I'd think. Theirs has done fewer than 1000km apparently.

I have seen another water-cooled Kombi here - this one is (I think) a 1989 Mexican model.

So is the legislation based on a chronological year or vehicle year? Ie. can someone import another 2009 Kombi now without issue or was it that from 2012 anything that came in had to have airbags etc?

mine is a good easy example - it came in with rear lap belts, which are illegal in a car manufactured in 2006, but ok in a Kombi made in 1974. They had to be removed. If I wanted to import a 1974 Westie, with lapbelts, not an issue. So a 2009 car has to be fitted with everything which was mandated in legislation for that year, be they airbags or ABS breaks - whatever.

I think the Final Edition one ended up allowed in to the country as a static display only, although it is in full working order. Mine has a rock'n'roll bed, but no rear belts. I can have proper belts installed, just not lappies.

Nice use of a later grille to keep it sleek.

I was very surprised to see that one - wasn't even registered yet. I'm not sure where it is now, the photo was taken in Mt Maunganui which is a port town in the Bay of Plenty, so I think it must have unloaded there.

I think they're cheap knock offs of the Centreline Autodrag - they were put on by the original owner
