Subject: Emissions test when you have an older engine. Thu Sep 03, 2020 10:52 am
Hi everyone, many thanks for the add. I'm on the start of a steep learning curve and am sure I'm going to need your help and advice. Where do I start!? Well I guess I'd like to initially try and find out a bit more about my Bay (called MJ). It seems to have a bit of a story but I know very little. It has a 1999 Brazilian VIN. I believe it may have had a couple of engine changes and currently has an 1600 Aircooled from 1972 (old MOT reports state it may even have been on LPG at one point).
There is no radiator grill at the front so I'm guessing it was always an Aircooled? Did the original engine for this year have fuel injection and a CAT? Does anyone else have an older engine installed, and do you have any issues with emissions tests at MOTs?
As a newbie, I'm struggling to upload pics and can't post a link for 7 days but will once I can to see if you can tell me anything about her (conversion/roof etc)
Many thanks in advance! Lee

Hi Lee
A 1999 Kombi would have had fuel injectors and a catalyst.
@dazdub is your best contact for info regarding fitting a carburettor run engine.

The rule has changed and you will need a cat now but it used to be if an early engine was fitted it would be tested as an early non cat test but not now
