This was about 8 hours from Calais, even taking the autoroute most of the way. We stayed in a caravan to save unpacking, but we had a day there so managed to get a feel for the campsite. The pitches looked quite large, and the toilets were fairly modern and clean. The pool complex was fairly small but no too busy. I imagine many people use this site to explore the Loire.
There was a nice patio outside the bar – we watched free wine tasting one night as we thought it was a family get together and not free wine tasting
There was a well stocked shop but I can’t remember what we bought except wine
No - this is close to the river about 3-4 miles to the east of Samur.
I need to look for this - sounds interesting for next time we are passing

Funnily enough we also stayed in Samur for a couple of days on the way to down to the Dordogne. We stayed at the Huttopia campsite to the west of the town which we'd happily use again. Good facilities, food on site and an indoor and outdoor pool. It was high up so had an amazing viewpoint of the Valley. We tried to go Paddle Boarding on the river but it was well booked up - so we went for a paddle in the river which despite it's size was great for our 8 year old to play in.
It was a very very long time ago that I camped on the island. At the time it was a municipal site but had two swimming pools tennis courts restaurant etc. It may still be there. It was a relatively short walk over the bridge and into town.
