This must be one of the most asked questions!!!. What is the best type of awning. Decieded to buy an awning for Dennis but have come from the old school of bag of seperate poles and a bag of canvas but as storage is rather limited what do we do. I have looked at the Kayham range and they look pretty robust and advice on these would be greatfully appreciated. Then the subject of how do you attach it whether it be figure of eight or secure the a pole to the gutter with clamps. Thanks Tim

I had the same drive-away one that Danbury sell. Hated it as it leaked in rain and was a nightmare to put up by myself.
Khyam Motordome all the way. Superb.

Last year I replaced my first awning as it was too small with one from Just Kampers, they say they were designed to fit onto VW campers and they are right. Its easy to put up and down and I use the pole and clamp to the gutter method. Its a good size and stands well when you leave it on site.
I have one of these:
Royal Traveller III
which I'm very pleased with, though a bit disappointed it wasn't available in purple! It works well enough and the slightly retro look goes will with the van. [/quot
I agree with you Tilly The Traveller is very retro

Looks just like the JK/Danbury Spacemaker I despise!

I had myself one of these at first. http://www.riverswayleisure.co.uk/acatalog/info_222300.html Rubbish. Hard to put up, rubbish in any wind above 10mph and broke the main pole on it's third use.
Got the same as Tim now. Awesome. Quick to put up and solid.

We have a khyam tourer, great awning not too big and and easy to load and store. The joke is that it takes 30 seconds to put up and 2 hours to peg down We use the pole and clamp method to keep it attached to the van.
Kyham motordome sleeper (4 people), great awning, use thye clamp method and has stayed attached in very stong winds. great having the tent already attached to the poles.
easy to put up, few mins to errect but as skytiger says if you want to use all the pegs it takes a while to peg down.
the kyham motordome sleeper that i have does come in one bag and is of generous size so it is not a squeeze to get the awning into......not sure on the exact size of the bag for this model, currently it is buried at back of garage but will give it a quick measure as soon as i can.
would recommend a bit of spray prrofing on the piece that connects to the van, as in stong winds it gets a bit of a hammering and if it is really wet can cause it to flick water a little as it flaps. I sprayed mine and didnt have the problem afterwards.

Hi Eddy,
We dont have that problem as the one we have once tied onto the van there is a tie pull which pulls it in tight and eliminates the flapping.

That sounds a useful feature olive....looked at your awning and yes very retro! i used to have an old frame four man tent that looked very much like it, nice!

I can recommend the Reimo Tour Easy which I bought from www.campershop.co.uk Have used it numerous times, quick and easy to erect and dismantle and looks pretty snazzy too.

Sale now on at Campershop.co.uk
I think I will be getting one of these for myself.
I did have a problem with similar tunnel awning. Using it in very heavy rain the rain can sit in between poles and as you will see from the attached pic ours actually collapsed.

We have an 'outlaw' from campershop which has an additional support pole for the connection tunnel to aid water runoff and avoid pooling. We've used it in heavy rain a few times and it performs very well.
Although, we don't use it very often these days, opting for our sun canopy/windbreak/popup tent combination instead.
Our's I think was a Royal Traveller, it had two side supports but really didn't aid runoff and we had constant pooling so looks like the 'outlaw' might well be okay from Tallulah's feedback... Having seen Abs's Khyam we plumped for upgrading to one of those and we've been very pleased with it although like Tallulah says if the weathers set fair the sun canopy set up is a great alternative.
