Just for information - some of you may be interested in this meet next September to honour the part played by Ivan Hirst in the creation of your Brazilian VW Bay.

For your reference this may be the last time the archives are avaialable to the public for some time according to the website:


The REME Museum, the hosts of the Maj. Ivan Hirst Volkswagen show, are being removed from the Arborfiled garrison, their long time home, and their archives, including a lot of Volkswagen history will be unavailable to the public - possible for many years to come.

The Defence Spending Review recently announced by government means that this will be the last Volkswagen show at Maj Hirst's regimental home before the Museum is closed.

Spent the middle part of the day at this event today
The story is almost unbelievable
The first Bettle into the UK was there - 1947 - see below


It was amazing seeing so many beetles and campers from the 40's 50's and 60's all in one location
Its not every day you can find a camper built in the year you were born and have your photo taken with it!
We are sure the show could have catered for most people on the forum

On top of all this, there was the REME museum
This provides an interesting insight to what these guys have done and still do
All in all enjoyed our visit - the sunshine also helped make it a nice day

That first Beetle in the UK came from Colbornes of Ripley, the first VW dealership in the country. My first 3 Golfs went there for servicing. Eventually the site became too small for the dealership and they moved to Guildford. The old place is now a small housing estate. I spent many a happy moment looking around the forecourt and showroom there in my early driving years.
