I think I'll give the ones from Just Kampers a try (remembering to ask for my BraziBay discount!). I'll also read through the threads carefully to make sure I put them on correctly. Thank you

I have standard old school chrome VW mirrors on mine Harry. My threads came loose. I overcame it by replacing the thick retaining nuts with a narrow nut (Half width) from eBay. ... worked a treat and they are nice and tight again. The threads on cheap ones are like cream cheese so watch for that!

Hi,

Anyone wishing to fit chrome or stainless steel mirrors.

The threads are not long enough on most of the ones you will purchase.

We have a special thread cutting tool so can make the thread a lot longer and then they fit very well and will not rattle loose, damage the vans threads or just fall out!

We can offer to do the above free of charge if anyone is passing and wants them fitting!

Happy camping,

VW Kampers

One of my shiny new wing mirrors fell off yesterday! I think I'll change the retaining nuts for a narrower width like chair_boy (above). I see that nuts come in M sizes. Would anyone happen to know what the M size for this nut might be?

A mirror fell off today. scratch
When I tried to put it back on I realised the screw thread had stripped.
I've been contemplating putting the original mirrors back on for a while as I do find it difficult to see properly using the smaller chrome ones especially in a LHD.
I might re spray them white like Kiteman.

I had the originals, sprayed white. Much better visibility.

Our chrome mirrors have a tendency to swivel about on the arm of their own volition. Is there a way of tightening them up so that we can adjust them and they stay adjusted?

Ours too. Need to keep tightening the cap thingy underneath.

The cap thingy underneath? Is that the nut at the bottom end of the arm? Does it tension the mirror on the swivel cup perhaps?

You're getting technical on me now. But yes the cap thing at the bottom of the mirror arm comes loose.  When tightened back up all fine for a good while longer. I wonder if not tightened if they would just wiggle right off?

Its all part of the 'fun' - little regular maintenance items like this.

Before every trip, we check/tighten the ones on Scooby, along with tightening screws on the inner handle mechanism on the sliding door, tyre pressures and the oil level.

Scooby says "Just Doo It" regularly until it becomes second nature and hopefully nothing will fall off! Laughing

This is when my problem started.
I noticed things were a bit loose so I tightened my nuts and they stripped the threads and fell off.
