Tolls - What Price A Bay? Empty
PostSubject: Tolls - What Price A Bay?   Tolls - What Price A Bay? EmptySat Nov 05, 2011 10:24 pm

Greetings,

We were heading to Cambridge a few weekends ago, and since it was Friday evening and we had a deadline, we ended up using the M6 Toll to cross the West Midlands.

The result was that we got round Birmingham quickly, but we had to pay an eye watering £10.60 to use the M6 Toll road. The van is a Class Four vehicle, which means it's in the same league as coaches and modest size commercial vehicles. I've checked the reasons why (it's based on the height of the vehicle at front axle), and we weren't mis-charged, even though it may be a little unfair to place the T2 in this class.

It did make me wonder if it was worth asking how much a T2 gets charged at various toll booths around the UK. How much for the Severn crossings, for example? Or the Mersey tunnels or Humber bridge.

Have fun,

CHRIS

Interesting...... we did enquire, but they claimed they had sensors which calculated the rate, rather than it being at the whim of the booth operator. Whether it's a case of "computer says no" over discretion, who knows!

It might be interesting to try using the automatic lanes and see if you can get away with it (we went through a staffed lane as we were short of change). However, even if £10.60 a hit is only a possibility, I'm not sure I'd readily volunteer to drive the M6 Toll again to experiment.

Toll regime is here: http://www.m6toll.co.uk/pricing/vehicle-classification/

Have fun,

CHRIS
