Spent most of today assisting Tim V with fitting Eva out with a new fog light and tailgate jail bars plus doing some essential cosmetic repairs/upgrades to van interior. In addition we took a trip to Tim's local body shop to get Eva's bottom half colour identified - the spectrum analyzer said nearest match was Hyundai Vivid Blue - at last I will be able to touch up all those little stone chips on Eva's front end. To end the day we visited the DVLA website where I was encouraged to part with me money and buy a personalised number plate for Eva. I admitted all to the wife when I got back home and only missed being savaged because my chosen plate was £545.00 cheaper than another available on the DVLA site.

Cheers Tim.

lol!

AC 06 BAY - AC being air cooled.

The £800.00 plate was MY 06 BAY.

Can I just say at this point that 'encouragement' was hardly needed at all in the purchase of said reg plate. He could hardly contain himself! Fun day working on Eva - here's a before and after:

She was also fitted out with a new accessory exclusive to Brazilian VW Bay.com. More details to follow real soon.

Jail Bars look great, was this just a case of a few correctly placed holes and self tapping screws?

Nice plate Stoney!

Drilling holes into tailgate revealed a great lump of metal running down inside left (rear view) of tailgate - not reflected on right side. This meant that the self tapping screw for that particular hole had to be shortened and then fixed with araldite (spelling?). Otherwise all okay.

Getting them straight in the window was the tricky part - particularly with my asymmetrical OCD!!

Whats the story with the Danbury sticker on the boot?
It appears to be in the after shot and not the before? (unless we are missing somthing?) Cool

The story is that the tailgate on Eva had been repainted prior to Stoney purchasing and the twits that did so lacquered over the top of the original Danbury sticker!!! Stoney pulled that sticker off and that then left a lacquer line in the shape of the sticker. I had a go at taking the edge down with my polisher but it was quite a thick coating of lacquer. There was still the shape of the sticker showing.

I had my old Danbury sticker stuck on the fridge in my garage - we stuck it on Eva to cover up the lacquer line! Cheapest option to fix!

Correction... the Danbury had already been removed when we bought Eva from Snailtrail. I wonder why the tailgate had been repainted? No sign of any damage in that area.

Just came across this thread as was searching for jail bars - just how tricky were the bars to fit in the end? Also were they a specific set for the Brazibay, or a standard T2 kit?

Standard T2 and you need a good eye to get the bars straight!

it looks great I have to say.

But....self-tapping screws into the metalwork with no 2nd chances?! It's making my palms sweat just thinking about it....

Hold it in place with tape some thick double sided tape to get it lined up. Once it's inplace mark where the holes need to be drilled and your sorted.

Measure twice drill once Smile

Metal drill and self-tapping screws? Is it advisable to remove the door? Or do the work from the inside with the door shut?

Keep the door on. You'll be heading into a whole heap of trouble trying to line it back up properly when you put it back on. Take the back part of the mattress out to give you move room. Will be easier with the bed down as well.
