Just a few weeks to go until I started forgetting everything...

I have a poorly boy under my arm at the moment too, v spotty with chicken pox. Just waiting for the sun to shine through the clouds so I can send him out to search for ants and worms...

Thanks Peppa for the nice comments - we do try our best. We were only saying last week that lots of our time here is currently spent on the phone helping people out...Most of them garages that are supposed to be VW 'specialists' and are charging people to work on their vehicles but call us and ask what to do! Our customer care programme is doing better and better and our new computer system is nearly finished too so it should get even better in 2012........ cheers

Like the configuration.

Apps don't have to be expensive, it depends what you want it to do.

The simplest (and least expensive) apps are simply a gateway to a website that results in a better user experience for mobile users.

I've worked with an app developer on a couple of projects, if you jot down a rough spec - features and functions - i'll have a quick chat with him and get you a rough quote.

K.

Does everyone have a poorly child at home today. Our son is off having proudly told me yesterday that 'I did a poo on the floor of the toilet at school' - no shame !! Well, he is only 4.

No need to spell check my posting or look for grammar mistakes ! It's all perfick !!

Cached HTML 5 is the easiest option within a iOS container if it is to be distributed on Itunes. That is what a lot of the mapping apps use.

However depends on what you want an app for. If you want a brochure / catalogue Interactive Ibook format is already grabbing a lot of ground given that you can embed QT and widgets within them and as long as it is not for profit in a book format is free to host on iBooks.

As BB said, it all depends on what you want the app for or want it to do.

ok, here's a few ideas, none of which have been 'vetted' for potential cost or functional issues, just ideas at the moment:

1) A configurator app - similar to the one on your site, but for mobile devices. It could have a real-time pricing feature so the total updates when you add another option, it could even include a finance calculator. A button for "more info" that send the completed van config along with contact details back to you guys to follow-up.

2) Book a service app - this would need to integrate with what ever system you currently have for booking in services.

3) FAQ app - assuming for the moment that you collect info on the types of questions you are asked, this info could be formalised into a comprehensive FAQ list so owners or other garages who need the info can access it directly rather than needing to actually speak to someone.

4) web site app - a 'container' for your website giving a more appropriate mobile device user experience.

As stated above, these are JUST ideas with no attention given to cost or feasibility, and I'm sure there are lots of other potential ideas. Anyone have any others?

How about a set of useful facts (like tyre pressures / sizes, oil type, fuses, part specs, and other stuff that I don't already know), how-to guides for potential problems ... anything that'll be useful at the roadside when there's no internet connection!

On the useful facts side.
The correct way to raise and lower the roof.
Kombi specs (width, height, length. etc)

It also needs to have a special Abquatulation App so that whatever problem I am currently suffering (but saying that I have had NO problems at all in 4 years), immediately disappears from the App....

Off topic: I believe I have a gremlin in my garage, tools, cloths, bits and pieces all disappear when I look for them and then reappear in the most obvious place days and weeks later. I would blame my wife, but I don't allow her in there.
