I've had a look at that marino yellow and saw a pic of a Westy in it, with white bumpers as well. Very nice and as you say, a good classic colour. Might have to tread carefully though. As Tallulah says, it looks remarkably orange.

If I could I would but the date has been set by the powers that be at Danbury. Now, if anyone here has influence of them ....

Well, girls now with their mother so I'm off to Danbury today. Got a small matter of paint to sort out. Fingers crossed, they might let me have a sneak peak of my van. I've no idea. Here's hoping.

Here's Max with Oly, a '76 that I helped a mate buy a few years ago. Oly is Marino Yellow a fab classic colour.

He was needing a bit of a polish - I've had a word....

That colour is quite close to orange isn't it?

It's a real Californian colour.

It is a great colour, but then I am biased as it's SOOOOO close to Tallulah's colour.

As announced in the BraziBanter last night we're thinking of officially converting to "yellow" in light of this new evidence.

I'm deffo going to buy a flagpole and flag - what height is that pole Tallulah?

7 metres I think. We've also got a 1m ground stake to erect it although we now know that we can attach it to our bike rack if the ground is too hard for the stake - as demonstrated at VolksWorld.

I'm going to stick my neck out now.... I believe Tallulah is YELLOW!

Mmm, very interesting (in the style of Rowan and Martins laugh-in).
Had a chap in court once, swore blind he stopped when the lights changed to brown, waited for yellow, and only carried on when the lights changed to blue! (true story)

For as split second I was thinking, wow,what a great van at the top of that pic - then I realised it was Tallulah!

We all know that both of these are vans are 'orange' even if the official name of the colour is Marino Yellow, so for the purposes of creating a rainbow at numerous events we will gladly be considered either.

For now, lets just say that Tallulah is Yellange

Well, back from Danbury's and all sorted colour wise. Had great fun trying to track down the right colour and code, and got involved in a fair bit of searching through colour charts and using the internet, but got there in the end. "She" gets sprayed tomorrow, yippee!

Sorry Scoobie, not zingy citrus yellow. As you will have gathered from the various posts above, I'm going for, or should that be my girls are going for the old classic VW colour of Chromegelb, also known as Marinogelb. Some might argue it's orange and I would find it difficult to argue otherwise except for the fact the name clearly states "yellow". So it's a yellow van. End of.

One interesting point in all of this was the fact that there seems to be a degree of confusion over whether Marino and Chrome yellow are the same. (this was the extensive internet searching bit) I'm still not 100% convinced that a definitive answer has been found but enough paint source sites indicate they were, and VW colour charts don't show Marino but do show Chrome. Also, of the two I couldn't see any difference in colour. So in the end I took comfort from the paint chart below:



Either way, I think it will look brill. Added bonus is I've saved on not having metallic paint. So of course I'm now spending that on a Honda generator, for those camping events without hookup, to keep the leisure battery topped up.

Excellent!

Very interested to see your new Kombi lined up next to Tallulah for a colour comparison.

We chose our 'Yellange' colour because we liked it, not really thinking about original retro VW colours, and as it turns out it looks incredibly close to Marino/Chrome Yellow.

Our V5 states "orange/white"
