Hi Decided I really need to give credit where it's due. Matt at Danbury has fixed my clutch problem - new cable and a new gear stick all for free. He said the cable was badly frayed & thats why I was having so many problems. Now I just have to re-learn getting it into reverse! Anyway, thanks to everyone who gave me advice on the forum & also to Tim for 'encouraging' me to give Danbury's a chance to fix the problem. Happy Easter to everyone Ellie x

Great news. Good to read you and your Kombi are at one again.

That reminds me, I'm now remembering why I started buying "modern" cars .... to stop having to carry spare xxxx around with me, along with the necessary tool chest. I got fed up with having my boot space taken up by "necessaries" before I'd even thought about putting a suitcase or whatever in. And the number of clutch cables I've had to change. I was so glad when I bought my first hydraulically operated clutch (which was actually on a motorbike before I had one on a car). At least on a bike I could still get home with a snapped clutch cable.

A snapped clutch cable is a rarity, however my Kombi has suffered this - fortunately in the driveway - and I'd recommend anyone going long distance to have a spare onboard.
