PostSubject: Hello, another newbie!   Mon May 10, 2010 7:55 am

My husband Tone & I bought Freebird in 2008, from Danbury. An empty people carrier, it took a while to warm to the emptyness after, many years ago, having a 1978 Bay for many years. However, it didn't take long to get going, We had a headliner & sunroof put in by Autorim, Ivybridge, I put foam from MadMatz down then a marine plywood floor, then some pretty blue mosaic lino, we fitted a rock & roll bed from Bluebird having covered all the foam with blue leatherette from Spectrum autovinyls. Fitting the bed was fun, I needed a steady hand to drill to within a fraction of the petrol tank! I fitted curtain rail & made Vanessa Arbuthnott curtains in blue swallow dive - gorgeous! I've covered the door & interior cards with sea blue lining fabric, fitted door pockets from JustKampers where we also got the roof rack - that had to be extended an inch or so to not rest on the roof, Dean Forge did a great job there. The cards were a bit thick so I filled the original holes with 'no more nails' , put rawl plugs in, waited 24 hours for them to harden, then used mirror screws to hold the cards in place. It wasn't cheap doing this but is a nice finish, kind of retro looking too. & Finally I had the electrics done with two leisure batteries fitted & an interior light. My son is a furniture maker & he did an amazing job of making the unit (blue of course) with walnut tops (I fitted gas struts to raise & lower the lids) that houses the fridge, sink & hob with grill from Rainbow Conversions, I've even tiled around the sink! we designed the unit together to specifically fit the sink, hob/grill , fridge & water carrier. There are still bits & pieces to finish off butwe are almost there. Two sheepskin covers for the seats made it really cosy this winter!

Oh yes ... that's where it all started. Search Brazilian VW Bay on Facebook and it'll pop up sharpish.
