I would love a photo one ,but they charge for it , tight b .........s,I will stick with my tissue paper version

Still got my paper one

Think the paper one's will be fazed out soon!

Anyone going to France should have a photo licence as the French police do not now acknowledge the paper version and you will be liable to a fine - and you know some French policeman love to pull English vehicles!

I've got an up to date one - had to change the photo last year.

I've been going to France since the mid 80s and haven't been stopped yet but maybe now I've just tempted fate!

I don't think it's a legal requirement to have the photo card licence in France yet but I do think that you should avoid anything that will give the nice gendarme an excuse, especially if your French isn't very good. I was thinking that a convoy of Kombis may draw attention...maybe just for a better look at our lovely bays but there is always the chance he may be in a bad mood!

Thanks for mentioning this - just sorted mine out - the old paper one went through the washing machine about 10 years ago - but just about survived - so about time I updated to the card.
It was all quite painless apart from the fee! LOL

Hi, just an added thing for you chaps going to France, I believe you have to carry at least 3 self breathalyser kits in your vehicle and have your sat nav set NOT to warn of speed cameras, otherwise the traffic police will fine you on the spot! Friendly bunch, I guess they take road traffic safety seriously, no doubt UK will fall in line at some point.

The paper one is being phased out in 2025.

I thought you werent allowed a sat nav period? Read about a guy that was pulled over at the tolls and marched to the cash machine before the police would let him go just because he had one in the car??

Your are allowed one but MUST have the speed camera alerts function disabled.

Not necessarily the case but you should make sure you've got one anyway!

That's just what my insurance company told me.

It's only the photo card part of your license that has an expiry date, the larger paper part lasts until you are 70.

Its free to swap to a photo one at the same time as a change of details...

So I got mine done for free when I moved house a couple of years ago.
