We are now planning 2014 holidays and was thinking about last years adventures .......
In July we went to Oban -Fort William-Skye. We set out on a hot Friday afternoon and headed North - our first overnight stop was in Howstean Gorge in the Yorkshire dales about 20miles north of Knaresborough.
next day after a morning spent looking round the gorge and caves we headed off to Oban, we did underestimate the time it would take to get to the m6...so it felt like we we driving forever. we eventually got to Oban about 9.00pm.
next day 3 islands tour - booked a coach tour 2 days solid driving was more than enough thought we would let some one else take the strain visited Mull- Iona and staffa
Iona
Staffa- Fingles cave and loads of puffins!
after 2 nights in Oban - off to Fort William and a train trip on the jacobite !
overnight at glen nevis then visit ben nevis
also visited the sea life sanctuary south of fort William
First major hiccup of the trip..... (ignoring the fact that we put a bag in front of the fridge vent on the first day and cooked the food in the fridge ) on the way back from the sealife sanctuary got stuck in a traffic jam south of fort william on the second day. At 11.00pm with the road already closed for 7hours we knew we would not be allowed back in the camp site at glen nevis - of course in a brazibay all you need to do is pop the roof and settle in for the night in a quiet layby- except it wasn't quiet since they eventually opened the road at 00.30 by this time we were tucked up and not going anywhere. next morning back to camp site use the facilities and off to Skye for 2nights
.....Then the long journey home and the first bit of rain we had seen in the 8 days
last night we stopped near Carlisle , the camp site was close to hadrians wall (or at least it was there somewhere beneath the grass! after a look round Carlisle the following day and my better half attacking some of the charity shops looking for a vintage bargain we headed h
ome.
It was a great trip, we were quite tired but we really had a great time . Can really recommend a trip to the west coast of Scotland it's brilliant
