I believe my new orange beast will be ready sometime in September. I want to make a plywood storage shelf to go where the upper bunk would normally sit. Can anyone tell me the width of the platform so I can make one up and take with me when collection time comes.
Why don't you have the bed boards put in? Once folded they make an ideal shelf space but you have also the flexibility of more sleeping room if you need it in the future.
If you don't actually need them the bed boards are pretty heavy. We do have bed boards but don't keep them in the van. I adapted an idea of lilyvdubs and used wardrobe rails to support a canvas stretcher like a hammock. When we put the roof up we slot the rails in place and throw our odds and ends up in the "hammock". We can even use it in place for extra storage in the roof space while we are on the road.
We've got a storage shelf. I'll measure it up in the morning for you, we got it with the van from Danbury and it's great for storing the things we carry behind the rear seat when we arrive on site.
